I was given a washer and dryer from a friend that had bought a new FL set. The washer, Maytab LAT9416AAE, had a very small, water leak. It looked like the tub seal. So I ordered a new seal and tub bearing kit. The old seal was coming apart when I took it off the tub. The tub bearing slipped right off the shaft. I turned over the bottom of the basket and it looks like it has a lot of built up gunk. I took a picture of the bottom of the basket. Is it suppose to be clean, down to the metal tub? 1 Bottom of basket  Second question, when I pushed the old rubber bushing part of the tub bearing kit out of the tub, I didn't notice which way it was installed, the grooved part of the rubber bushing up or down? I put the grooves up, see picture below. 2 Bottom of tub - showing tub bearing kit piece  I then put the tub in, bolted it to the three support arms, hooked up the drain hose to the tub. Slipped the seal on the tub, all the way down and the lip. Then hand tightened the top piece, then tighted it with the spanner wrench about an 1/8 of a turn. Then I put the allen head bolt in the top piece. I then put water in the tub to check for leaks. As the water got to the top in side piece, just below the top rubber seal on the transmission shaft water started coming out of the grooves and also out of the brass piece area. Any ideas? All that gookus needs to be cleaned out of the tub seal dome in your frist picture-- that may be the source of the leak. Here's the procedure I use when I do one of these jobs. I actually used those instructions to do the repair. I thought it might be the gunk but that just sits on the mount stem so that shouldn't cause any leak? I tried putting water in the tub without putting the basket in the tub. I had the new seal and mount stem installed. And it leaks as the water get to the top of the new mount stem. It sounds like it is not sealing between the new seal and the mount stem?? I didn't put anything on either area and I ran my finger over the top of the seal and the bottom of the mount stem and I didn't feel any roughness. What I might do is take a picture of each the the steps and post those, maybe someone will see what I am doing wrong.

Ok, so I took it back apart and wanted to see where it was leaking. I put the rubber seal on the tub and filled the tub with water to just below the top of the seal. No leak. See picture below. Seal on tub - NO Leak  Then I put the mount stem on hand tight, then tightened it a little more with the spanner wrench. Put the torx screw in. I then started adding water and got it into the threaded part, below the transmission shaft seal, and it started leaking.  So it looks like it is leaking where the rubber boot meats the mount stem bottom.  Am I missing something? How does the two pieces seal, just against each other? Any ideas?

Maybe just because you didn't do the new seal dry run for two minutes? I've never had a reason to try and test before putting the tub back in and the last step on a seal change is to run spin cycle for 2 minutes with no water to seat the new seal surfaces. From your pictures everything looks fine.

I bet your right...I didn't do a spin cycle...I will do that. Wonder what the spin cycle does to the pieces? My guess is it just seals/levels the pieces against each other. From looking at the pictures it looks like it was seating on three areas. I have to make sure and read and follow all of the last few directions... my bad!

Well I finally had some time to try running it in a spin cycle. I first took it apart and dried everything. I then started back putting the boot stem on the tub, then the mounting stem, hand tight then about an 1/8 turn more. Put the allen screw in. Put the basket in, nut and tighten it. Put the agitator on, top seal and ran it through a spin cycle, about 4 minutes. THen I started a cycle, and before it stopped adding water, it started leaking. So I drained the tub. I then took the agitator off to see at what water level it was leaking. It was as before, before it gets to the transmission seal level. So it sounds like it is still leaking at the boot seal and mounting stem. Any ideas? Should I take the boot seal and mounting stem out and clean with anything? I have been real careful not to touch the surfaces with my fingers. Help....

Did you use genuine parts or after market? Are both seling surfaces flawless? Is the seal fully seated on the outer tub? And are you sure the tub lip doesn't have a hole in it?
