Before I totally ditch my 4 year old, lightly used, Maytag washer in Virginia. What are the odds the reason the clothes are wet vs. damp after the spin cycle is because of a bad belt? I'm getting a new washer delivered tomorrow, and they'll haul the old one away. That's fine and dandy because the old one may have a bad transmission, but if its only a belt, I hate to think of it ending up in a landfill! What happens to appliances hauled away by folks from Home Depot, etc? Do they just toss them, or does someone at least try to recycle them? Thanks all!

You can twinkle your nose and check out the thrust bearing in the large centre pulley- trans failure is common with these machines

When I was a little girl Maytag stood for quality, but alas this no longer true. Such heartbreak! Thank you for the reassurance this Maytag is indeed a HUNK O JUNK...may it rest in peace anywhere but my utility room! Sam

All of the Big Chains like Home Depot,Lowes, Sears, etc are being pushed by the gubment to have the machines desposed of so they don't make it back into the community....trying to force energy efficiency upon us . However the Sears "RAD" (responsible appliance disposal) program that you see advertised on TV all the time isn't exactly what I would call responsible.....I get units from Sears, Lowes, and Home Depot every week by the truck load for refurbish. I think they started out well with the program and it went down hill from there. And no, a belt won't help...time for the scrapper
