Wise and all-knowing Sages,

My wife has informed me that her washer machine (F&P gwl10us) is taking FOREVER to complete a wash cycle.  :wuv:  I'm wondering if the cold water inlet valve needs replaced.  I selected the permanent press cycle and started filling water.  With "warm" selected, it seems to fill quickly, or what I would expect.  When I switch to "cold" the water flow seems restricted and slow to me.  I've disconnected both hot and cold water lines and opened the valves to run water directly into tank and there's plenty of pressure.  I've also checked and cleaned the screens at the inlet valves on the washer.  They were completely clean.  We inherited this machine with our home and I was hoping to find the service manual under the control panel as described in other posts, but no such luck.  Any help with further diagnosing my problem would be much appreciated.  Thanks!

JK

Mr. JK

I believe you would need a water valve... i shall supply the part number :) Lime and calcium build in the valve some times and cause internal blockage... like getting constipated... hmm... that always sucks!

If you PM Reg, he may have the service manual.

Cold water valve FP p/n 426560
Hot water valve FP p/n 426559

sears says call for availability and repair clinic says its NLA - no longer available... below is the number for FP directly. If there is availability or a replacement substitution, they will know.

Mr. Tronicsmasta,

I went down to our local appliance repair store first thing this morning and they had the cold water valve in stock.  ($57)  Thank you for the part number.  I felt like an expert.  I came home and installed the new valve and am pleased to let you know that my wife is happy to have her washer back to it's old self.  And, I'm happy because I got to watch football tonight instead of work on the washer again.

Thanks to all the experts on this site.  I'm almost looking forward to the next time one of our household machines needs some attention (well, not quite, but this site has made it much more bearable!).

JK
