Turning the drive pulley in a clockwise direction (view from the pulley end) is fairly easy and will rotate the washer basket and the transmission in a clockwise direction. However, when the drive pulley is turned in a counterclockwise direction the turning effort required is great and will result in rotating the washer basket and the transmission in a counterclockwise direction. The agitatior has been removed and there are no foreign objects caught between the agitator and the basket. Are there repair manuals available describing the transmission removal and disassembly?

Does your transmission look like this one (orbital) or do you have the flat one?![]()

Edited Heres's a parts break down for your tranny, i'll post some tear down instructions in a bit. Here is a manual with tear down instructions. Even though it shows the orbital transmission the tear down of the machine is the same. I'm still looking for a repair document for your type tranny, but it's so old there may not be one, but I will continue looking. Manual

Thanks for the breakdown. Must the clutch and brake assembly, and the transmission be removed from the washer in order to disassemble the trnsmission? Are there any left-hand threaded components that I would encounter in removing the transmission from the washer?

shouldnt have to remove the entire tranny (most likely). Once you remove the outer tub it's wide open...from there you can just remove the top of the tranny. To remove the inner tub the spanner nut is left handed threads. If you need the link to a spanner wrench I can provide it along with any parts you may need. It's also recommended that you replace the stem seal kit and tub bearing.

What is the availability of the transmission components for this machine and what is the proper procedure to adjust the clutch/brake drive on this machine?

Most of the common failure components of the tranny show to still be available, some are special order though. No brake adjustment is usually necessary on this machine. More than likely this is the part you are going to need. Agitator Drive Shaft Kit Link ![]()
