Found a nice looking electric clothes dryer at a house sale. The dryer has already been moved a long way from the 220v outlet. Can I do a decent function test just with a 110v extension cord and some jumpers? Leigh M Portland Orygon

you can test the motor by rigging a cord to L1 and Neutral on the terminal block as well as timer advancement (in most cases). Use an OHM meter to check the heating element, T- stats, and fuses. All should show continuity with wires disconnected.

ot to be a dummy here, but you are saying to remove the cord cover, then jumper to Terminal 1 and the Neutral. That's white, right? will i be able to access the elements easily for the continuity test? Remember this isnt' my dryer -- not yet anyway! cheers! --------------------------------------------------- PS -- thx for the super fast reply, however logging in is a bear! Took me forever to find the login page. Grrrrrr

depending on model number: mechanical Timer may be 220v and Timer Motor won't run Dryer Power Terminal Strip Connect 110V Line Cord Neutral (White) to CENTER Terminal AND to LEFT Termnial Connect 110V Line Cord Black L1 (hot) to RIGHT Terminal (may be Red or Black) Dryer should run normally, except Heater will be at 25% power. OR IF it dosen't power-up, then change to: Connect Line Cord Neutral (White) to CENTER Terminal AND to RIGHT Termnial Connect Line Cord Black L1 (hot) Black to LEFT Terminal (may be Red or Black) Dryer should run normally, except Heater will be at 25% power.
