We have a Kenmore HE2t washer that we bought less than 3 years ago. It has worked great until today.

I put all my clothes in, started the washer just like normal. The door locked as it always does and the wash cycle started as it always does. Nothing abnormal about it.  I came back about 45mins later (it was on a 30min cycle) and it was flashing an F-22 code. I hit cancel to stop it and tried to open the door and it was locked.  I turned the washer off and back on and the door was still locked. I turned it off and back on several times, tried to start a new cycle, tried the rinse/drain/spin cycle and nothing. It wont start any new cycles up. The Door Locked light is lit up red and the door lock will click 5 times and then the F-22 code will show up on the timer display screen.

I have unplugged it for 30secs, 60secs, and now 4 hrs and still nothing is working. I keep getting the same 5 clicks and the F-22 code.

I called Kenmore and they tried to trouble shoot by telling me to do all the same things that I already tried.  They set me up with an appt for Saturday to have someone come open it so that I could at least get my clothes out (every piece of summer clothing and under garments that I own is in that washer) and then set up a repair fr another day.

Not 5 mins after I got off the phone with Kenmore, Sears called me to cancel my appt for Saturday saying that there isnt anything that they can do about it until August 13th because they dont have anyone qualified to work on my washer in the area until then. They have to get someone from out of state to work on it. :X

Sooo, now Im at a loss as to what to do.  As I said ALL of my darned clothes are in that washer for another 2 weeks until a tech that is qualified enough can come open it up, inspect my clothes, tell me they are ruined, put in a claim to Kenmore for me (Kenmores idea NOT mine) and THEN come back another day to repair it.

Does anyone have any clue as to how I can go about open this door without busting it up ??  It will NOT open at all.

You would think that there would be a safety release or something on it. Im just glad it was my clothes and not my toddlers.

OH the F-22 code is the same code that we get when the spin is off balance too much, or the rare time that the hot water wasnt filling properly.

yes there is an access cord to unlock the door. remove the bottom front panel, unplug the washer, and you may need a flashlight to help see the bottom of the door lock mechanism, there is a release..i"ll post some more info. in a moment

Im not sure what the model # is.  There is a sticker on the detergent drwaer but its gotten wet and its all smeared.  We have moved twice since we bought it and I cant find the paper work to it.  I know that we have it, but Im not sure where it is.

We have tried to open it while it is unplugged and nothing. No clicking of the lock, nothing.

We tried to take the front bottom panel off, but we cant.  Its not a plastic panel, itss metal and from the way it feels, its a solid panel fron the fron all they way under the washer.

there's 3 screws along the bottom edge facing toward you.remove those and the panel will come off.

have you tried hitting the cancel button "twice" ?

I got the panel off.  I also found the guide for the service tech inside the panel.

It says that Error cde F/22- Door lock mechanism is broken or removed from door or Door switch/lock unit failure.

Solutions- Unplug washer or disconnect power, check door lock/switch, check the wire harness connections to the oor switch/lock unit and central control unit.

I have dont the unplugging.

Yes, I have hit the cancel/stop button twice and normally once it would stop the cycle and drain and then unlock the door so that an item could be added and then just hit the start button and it would start the cycle all over with.  twice and it would stop, drain, unlock and return then shut the washer off.

Now, pushing cancel/stop twice just shuts the washer off and makes the lock light come on.

To Manually unlock the door lock system:

1. Unplug the power cord from the outlet.

2. Remove the lower toe panel.

3. Reach up along the inside of the front panel and locate the bottom of the door   latch assembly.

4. Located on the bottom of the door latch assembly is a tear-drop shaped tab.

5. Gently pull the tab down about ¼” or until a click is heard.

6. The door may now be opened.

once you get the door open there should be a model label around the door. post the # and we will link you to the part.
