My Asko w640 is 10 years old now, during that time I have put new motor brushes in it 3 times, (well one brush at a time), the last one being only 2 months ago. Now I have "wash motor failure" message on screen again. I pulled out the motor and the brushes only to see that they are both fine with plenty of carbon rod left. So I hoped to strip the motor but the end housings are permanently attached so you cannot take it apart. I blew out TONS of black dust (from the brushes I assume) with compressed air and then soaked it internaly in electrical cleaner and allowed it to evaporate. Reassembled the machine and it stills behaves identically. The motor makes some attempts to spin (a few degrees at best) then surrenders and gives "wash motor failure" on screen. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated ! Regards, Rick Australia

not much info in the service manual W640/W660 208–240 V 60 Hz Part no.: 80 617 74 Resistances: Pins 1-2 68.7 Ω Pins 3-4 1.65 Ω Pins 5-6 1.52 Ω* Pins 5-7 0.58 Ω * 1.9 Ω measured diagonally across the collector. The motor is a universal motor controlled by an external motor control board. The rotation speed is stepless and controlled by a tachogenerator on the motor. The maximum speed is 1600 rpm.

All fixed now  At first we thought we could repair the motor, a close look at the commutator showed it was out-of-true ... (not round). So we drilled out the ridiculous no-service pins that held the ends on the motor and replaced them with nuts and bolts the way they should have been made. Then whacked the center in the lathe and trued-up the commutator, cleaning out all the little gaps filled with years of brush gunk etc... Re-assembled it and it behaved just the same (with bonus smoke from the windings ! )We then declared it dead and shoveled the crazy $298au for a new motor and HEY PRESTO! the washer works (it's 10 years old now and we are hoping for another 10 years!!) DOH !! New problem with the W640  The new motor ran great for 11 months, Now the machine is constantly blowing it's main fuse on the back - A new cycle starts to fill with water and as soon as the motor is about to start moving, the fuse blows. The motor and all mechanical parts are spinning freely. Can anyone suggest what would be causing the fuse to blow???? We had noticed a water leak spraying water on the back of the console area a month ago when the machine shut itself down and did not blow a fuse ... we dried the area and 2 days later it worked again on it;s own, we were never able to find the leak it seemed to go away magically, so all may be unrelated to current problem PLEASE HELP !

I should ad that we only use 0 degree cycles (re temperature) so I assume it cannot have anything to do with a heating element
|
