Hi there, I've utilized your website to help repair my dryer last year.
Thanks so much! I've been having the lint issue with my washing machine for about a year now. The unit is a stacked MayTag washer/dryer, tucked into a tiny closet. So it would be quite tough to take it apart to get at the "barrel" where the lint seems to be sitting. I've cleaned the lint filters. I've tried using distilled white vinegar(seemed to work somewhat, early on, but no longer). I make sure not to overload it with clothes and use a decent amount of detergent (Purex ultra). I just tried your drain test and it passed at 80 sec. The cold water pressure is strong, the hot water is weak, trickling in. So for a while, I've been dumping buckets of hot water in, to speed up the fill process. The lint sticks itself onto t-shirts and hoodies, so much that I have to wash those clothes over again by hand, in the tub, else I itch! Any ideas??
Additional details: We do have hard water here, as evidenced by the white chlorine-looking residue on and near sink faucets. Early on, I noticed if I used a considerable amount more detergent, along with the distilled vinegar, it helped. But I thought, of how much money I was spending on detergent and it didn't seem right! Also, the detergent is liquid(had read this is better than powder?) And 2 times, I've done the distilled water soak, filling the washer with HOT water, pouring 4 32-oz bottles distilled white vinegar in and letting it soak for a few hours...seemed to work the first time, but not the second time(about 6 mos later).
The lint filters are located under the agitator. And so when I first cleaned them last year, I pulled out the agitator and let it soak and totally cleaned it. It was indeed crudded up. I've kept my eye on it and it is still totally clean. It seems the lint is sitting in between the outer barrel and the inner barrel(one with the holes), as at the ends of a wash, i can see little "tails" of lint pieces sticking thru. It's as if it's dried lint sitting, caked in there.
This is a stacked unit, with TOP-loading washer on the bottom and the front-loading dryer connected to the top. Thanks!
