Hi, Here is the info I provided over on the Facebook page... Hi there, I've utilized your website to help repair my dryer last year. Thanks so much! I've been having the lint issue with my washing machine for about a year now. The unit is a stacked MayTag washer/dryer, tucked into a tiny closet. So it would be quite tough to take it apart to get at the "barrel" where the lint seems to be sitting. I've cleaned the lint filters. I've tried using distilled white vinegar(seemed to work somewhat, early on, but no longer). I make sure not to overload it with clothes and use a decent amount of detergent (Purex ultra). I just tried your drain test and it passed at 80 sec. The cold water pressure is strong, the hot water is weak, trickling in. So for a while, I've been dumping buckets of hot water in, to speed up the fill process. The lint sticks itself onto t-shirts and hoodies, so much that I have to wash those clothes over again by hand, in the tub, else I itch! Any ideas?? Additional details: We do have hard water here, as evidenced by the white chlorine-looking residue on and near sink faucets. Early on, I noticed if I used a considerable amount more detergent, along with the distilled vinegar, it helped. But I thought, of how much money I was spending on detergent and it didn't seem right! Also, the detergent is liquid(had read this is better than powder?) And 2 times, I've done the distilled water soak, filling the washer with HOT water, pouring 4 32-oz bottles distilled white vinegar in and letting it soak for a few hours...seemed to work the first time, but not the second time(about 6 mos later). The lint filters are located under the agitator. And so when I first cleaned them last year, I pulled out the agitator and let it soak and totally cleaned it. It was indeed crudded up. I've kept my eye on it and it is still totally clean. It seems the lint is sitting in between the outer barrel and the inner barrel(one with the holes), as at the ends of a wash, i can see little "tails" of lint pieces sticking thru. It's as if it's dried lint sitting, caked in there. This is a stacked unit, with TOP-loading washer on the bottom and the front-loading dryer connected to the top. Thanks!

Hi Kara, welcome to the forum! This is mo'bettah for tech talk because we can do more stuff. Like we talked about at Facebook, you'll want to remove the inner basket to clean out the gookus. But, here's the good news: you don't need to pull down the dryer! With your model number, I was able to see that this is just like the Maytag SE1000 series, which are nice to work on. Behold: ![]() The only trick is that you need a special tool to remove the hub nut. Part link for spanner wrench==> Click

OH wow, that's brilliant! I just looked and it is indeed just like that. It's like lego pieces, haha. I always thought some screw were missing to some bracket, as I've always noticed the pieces seemed to slightly shift a little, heh. Those pictures show the front vertical cover removed. Should I remove that piece before pulling the unit forward in the track?

Yes, remove the front panel first. Couple of screws right at the very bottom, cheek to the floor, you'll see 'em. Panel swings out and off to remove.

Okay, I've manged to find the tool locally for $23(inc tax). I've got it on the nut and I am hammering it COUNTER-clockwise. It's moving...slowly. Just want to make sure that is the proper direction? Thanks!

No, the spanner nut is left handed threads. You will need to hammer clockwise to remove.

OKay, I've pulled the inner basket out. There is a white plastic piece connected to the inside of it. Looks like just 4 little tabs holding it in. But I think it's stuck to the basket by the lint, haha. I was thinking to fill the bathtub with a little bit of hot water and then put the basket in there, upside down to soak a bit? Here is a picture...

Actually, I just got the ring piece out and have it soaking in the tub. Man, so much nastyness (lint) on the basket where that ring piece was!

Is the clothes guard cover on your machine plastic or metal? If metal you will need to make sure that its reinstalled correctly before you get the machine completely reassembled.

Which piece is the clothes guard cover? There is a white plastic outer ring piece that clips on, once the inner basket is back in. It goes over the top of both the basket and outer tub, clipping to the outer tub. I've just run it thru a cycle with no clothes in it, keeping the front vertical cover off, to keep an eye on things. So far so good. Will do the real test next with clothes. Thanks!

Okay, I STILL have the lint problem, after all that, ugh. Here are pictures... Something I did notice...When I had removed the inner basket, I saw there was still a very small amount of somewhat murky water left in bottom of the outer tub. not even covering the whole bottom. And that the hole in there(where the hose from the pump connects to it), the water was still to the top of that hole, after I had soaked up the little bit of water left in the tub. Is that supposed to be like that or should that have no water in it at all? It does pass the slow drain test at 80 seconds. But yeah, now I am questionig that hose and/or the pump? The pump is almost a see-thru plastic and watching it during the cycles, it seemed to be pumping water thru really well. So yeah, wondering if it's a crud issue inside that hose or maybe crud in the end of the pump where that hose connects to it?

You might want to try this because what you are getting on the clothes maybe limescale build-up and not lint. http://www.filter-outlet.com/product.php?p=maytag_18001080&product=112949

Hi Scott, Thanks for jumping in. The thing is, I just spent all afternoon scrubbing out both the outer tub and the inner basket and all the ring pieces. So all of those pieces are now totally clean. Where else would the lime(or lint) be coming from? Some of the pieces stuck to the clothes do appear white-ish, but some are definitely grey chunks of lint. I am still questioning the hose between the pump and the outer tub. The pump is pretty much see thru and the water in there appears to be clean.

The amount of water that you describe as being left in the tub after it finished is normal. If you had left the spin basket out and put it in a spin/drain cycle you will see it suck all the water down and as soon as the motor stops it would be back to the same as you see it. Once the pump starts sucking air it can't pump water out any more then when you stop it, the water column that is left in the drain hose or at least to the siphon break comes back down and fills the pump and the hose that goes from the tub to the pump.
