My Maytag washer model # PAV2300AWW is draining water as it is filling ans will not advance to the agitation cycle.  I checked with repair clinic and under their instructions replaced the timer.  (which I know we did wrong)....How do you replace the timer anyway.  We have it installed but the cycles are all screwed up?  Whats the problem with this machine.  It''s only a few years old?

One more thing...switching the timer didn't work.  It is still filling and draining at the same time.

Is the water coming in and going right out or is the motor running and pumping the water out while it is coming in?

If it is filling and draining and the washer is not running,  your drain hose is too far down into the house drain and/or there is no air gap around the drain hose where it goes into the standpipe.  City sewer systems have pumps, without an air gap the sewer system will syphen the water right out of that washer.  If the washer motor is running while this is happening you have another problem so ignore the above if the motor is running.
