Whirlpool model # LSC8244B Washer Constant knocking when spinning. The knocking is more pronounced the heavier the load. I used to try to balance the load by adjusting the laundry, lift the feet, etc, but that doesn't work anymore. Sometimes it knocks so hard that it will stop spinning then start up again. On occasion I find it full of water after the spin cycle has completed. This has been going on over a month. Am I hurting it by using it? Thanks for your help!

Yes, you are hurting it more by still using it, (most likely). You need to find out what the noise is before it possibly damages more parts and cost you more to fix. (Where do people get the idea that when a strange new appliance noise starts it will just fix it self and not get worse or cause more problems????) Sounds like you have the classic stripped out drive block. Open the lid, put machine in spin cycle and push the lid switch lever down with a pencil or your little finger. Watch the tub when it spins, does it look like it is kind of bouncing up and down as it spins and in sync with the noist your hearing? The full of water after spinning could be an related problem, need to fix the noise first. Can someone help me with the part number for that drive block? Is it #389140 ? I saw that number on another post for a whirlppool drive block.........

yes, it does make the knocking, unbalanced sound/motion when i lift the lid and use the pencil. it knocks/bounces more side to side than up and down, though..........

I just had a friend here who knows something about appliances...........he was more concerned about how much movement the tub has. it is very loose, and it can touch the front casing if you move it around. I forgot to mention that earlier. Also, when I start a load of wash, I have been having to adjust the tub so the fill water lines up properly when filling the tub..........he looked at the springs, and thought they were ok, but didn't have time to take it apart. he's coming back what should i have him check first? thanks for any imput

It sounds like you have one or more of the suspension springs broken or came off. Also, you may have worn or broken suspension pads. I'll assume it's level, and all 4 feet are firmly on the floor. By the way, what type of floor is it on? Nick

THanks to all of you for your replies. I have not taken the cover off yet, was waiting for appliance friend to return, but think I will go ahead with it in just a bit. The floor it is on is concrete slab with a thin hard linoleum. I did a small load while waiting for appliance friend to return and the tub is really moving around, wanted to knock on all sides of the cover. very loose..............will return when i get it apart.........thanks again! WOOOO-HOOOO!!! I found at least one of my problems! The rear balance suspension spring had come off, but I"m not sure how to hook it back. It appears that the bottom connection hole (that the spring hooks to) has corroded thru.............any ideas on how to hook the lower end of the spring? And should I still check the drive block? no sign of metal , but there is a sign of a little black rubber under there! Also, I'm never using those black water hoses again! ONe has a balloon right near the spigot, and the other HAD a balloon, and now has a tiny pinch hole with a very light spray of water coming out. btw, i can't get the hoses off, any ideas of a tool or easy way? thank you so much! Koby

Yeah, when your fill hoses start looking like this, it's time to re-think the whole rubber hose thang. Stainless steel braided fill hoses are the cheapest flood insurance you can buy: http://www.repairclinic.com/referral.asp?R=154&N=587617 You may need to replace the bracket that the spring attaches to (item 5). If you can't replace a bracket to correct the situation, you may need to drill a new hole near where the original hole was. See the diagram I linked to in my previous post. It looks like drilling a new hole is the answer. I don't see any kind of bracket where it should attach down low............anybody agree/disagree?
