I had this problem with my Maytag Atlantis washer, Model MAV6260AWW. It would not spin, but it would agitate and drain properly. When in spin cycle, it was very noisy as the belt was slipping. http://applianceguru.com/forum2/22222.html I took photos of the repair process. Maybe it'll help someone else. As a disclaimer, please be careful. You will be working with an electromechanical machine. There are moving parts and electrical connections. Unplug the machine before working on it to avoid personal injury, electric shock, electrocution, property damage, or any expense incurred by you through the use of these instructions. This was adequate according to the procedure, the brake disengaged and the drum started to spin while the arrow was between the lines, HOWEVER it was pretty close to the last line... I like my stuff towards the tighter side of the tolerance. I decided to add the thick washer anyhow to make it spin closer toward the first line. This way, the cam could wear a little more before it failed again... By that time, I suppose there'll be other problems with this machine. When I added the thick washer, the clip was slightly more difficult and did require an undocumented tool and procedure... However, I could not wield the tool and the camera at the same time. Question: What other brands use this same setup of drive system? The previous few washing machines I had taken apart did not have a system like this. One had a motor where you could see the bottom of it up front in the middle. The shaft pointed toward the back of the machine. It was directly bolted to the transmission that sat under the drum. The other had the motor offset with the shaft pointing up into the transmission. The transmission had two solenoids on a hinged piece. When it'd agitate, the solenoids would swing back and forth. When it went into spin, the second solenoid would lock the hinged piece still. I forget the brands of machines they were... I like this Maytag setup. It's easy to diagnose.

From the looks of those water stains around the stator looks like you got more than thrust bearing problems there.

The valve on the toilet failed and caused a flood in my basement. Luckily, I have that floor drain there. Note the rust stains all over the place from the various car parts I had laying about. Toilet valve is fixed... For now. Washing machine works just fine now with no problems, including no leaks from the tub. I thought the flood and the washing machine failing were linked. Just kinda get one of the legs of the clip into the slot on the shaft and slowly work your way around it, tapping on it carefully.

I have a Whirlpool LA9500XTWO. It will not spin...makes a loud clacking noise. Would the same process repair my washer? It has been making noise occasionally that sounded like a bearing grinding. Hope this is something I can fix myself. Thanks in advance!!! sherrycopeland
