Whirlpool direct drive washer with the Amana name on it (a little dishonest I'd say), had a bad capacitor. I replaced it, and now  that capacitor has gone bad. Bad motor?:burning:The capacitor I replace lasted about 3 months. The washer itself is about 18 months old.

Not dishonest, you have to know who built what your buying if you care.

Whirlpool bought out Maytag in 2006, (which owned the Amana name after they bought out the SpeedQueen/Amana brands long ago).

You ought to be glad it's really a Whirlpool machine rather than an Amana, it's a much better machine.

Not sure if it's a 3 speed. I'll have to look. I'm leaning toward a bad motor, but wanted to be sure as they are not cheap.

I know Whirlpool makes them, but it used to be if one company bought out another, they made the bought-out brand basically the same. Most customers do not want to have to do extensive research on each make and model they look at in the store to see if it's still made the same. They often buy depending on their past experience with a brand and I just think it's a little deceitful to put the Amana name on a Whirlpool washer. While I agree that the Whirlpool is by far the better machine, it's just a matter of honesty.

Its a lot worse when they have a dependable care maytag machine and they buy the new maytag. I always keep the customers on the up and up about products so they are not fooled when they go to purchase 1. Cause trust me the salesman @ the ole big box ain't gonna ;)

I had a problem in the past with these capacitors as they would list one that was of a much higher rating (324 Mfd), when the one I was relacing was much lower (116 Mfd) - check the rating on the replacement vs the original to see if they are the same
