About 2 weeks ago I cleaned the drum/tub/parts and replaced the clutch -which was very loose keeping the washer from spinning very well if at all- and it spun like new.

I left the cabinet off for these past two weeks just to be sure all was good

All was good so I replaced the cabinet

Washed 5 or more loads with cabinet on and it was great

6th load was a very small load. I shut the washer off JUST as it was going into the first rinse/spin as company had showed up .. no problems, no noises.

3 hours later I go to finish the wash and BANG BANG BANG BANG

Immediately shut the washer off and begin to cry.  It is SO loud!

Sounds like it's coming from underneath somewhere. Agitator/drum will not spin.

I have no idea. I haven't done anything yet ..not even check below the unit.

Clutch was easy to replace so don't think I did anything wrong with installation

Transmission busted? Something stuck somewhere? Motor coupler doesn't seem the cause as it was fine and research doesn't support that as cause. Bearings? ..Read something about that. Clutch/brake cam ..the white thing with 2 arms/prongs broken? Basket drive block busted? That was OK, too. Nuts not tightened enough? Doubt that.

I'll record the washer in spin and upload to youtube tomorrow for a listen.

thanks for all help/opinions/questions

"Clutch/brake cam ..the white thing with 2 arms/prongs broken?"

perhaps

turn it to spin and see if the clutch disk is rotating

Remove the load  and do what NCSU suggested, It could have been out-of balance at the start of the spin cycle...( small load ).

I'll check
I haven't taken the cabinet off yet, though. It's in a niche that neccessitates the dryer be removed from the room before anything can really be done ..Even tipping over
..probably tomorrow

Don't know if it helps with a diagnosis or not or if it's completely normal
but the agitator -the bottom part thats bolted on- will turn both ways CC and CW. No resistance, no grinding noise or skipping etc

Here is the video on youtube. The thing actually spins a bit this time but skips, too. You'll see. Sorry for the quality but it didn't look that dark on the LCD..
It's loud so for full effect turn up that volume! lol

What does it do in the agitate cycle?? that will make the motor and the transmission rotate in the opposite direction................. ( Set the pawl in the transmission....)

Everything seems fine in the agitate/wash cycles
I hope that answers what you're asking
All the speeds work in agitate and were working prior in all cycles

Now just cyclic banging on pot noise as soon as spin begins and I don't believe lets up at any time

Sounds -TO ME- like the clutch is turning 1/4 or so rotation and repeating that motion back and forth when it should be spinning round ..but I'm certainly no appliantologist.

Agitate rotates one way
spin rotates the other?
Agitate can work while spin is broke = transmission problem? = pawl not setting correctly?

Anyway ..... later today I should get a look underneath

Take a glance at the clutch while machine is running- it is the shiny disc directly above the transmission that resembles an ashtray (remember those?) if it is spinning, problem is in basket drive, if not- tranny is the cause

Hey, I'm Back!
Sorry to have left this thread like that two months ago but went to visit my father around Thanksgiving and just didn't bother with the washer as had other projects goin on besides
I sacked it up and went to the laundromat or washed small loads and did some hand wringing
Awesome, but worked.

I guess it's my New Years resolution

Anyway
The clutch spins. The clutch in it is brand new as I had just replaced that prior to this problem
It spins in agitate AND in spin
But during spin the tub doesn't turn -or as in the video barely turns
I don't let it get that far to see as the sound is horrid

Last week I took the cabinet off and all so I could check the drive block etc before buying the transmission which I was set to do a couple hours later
Only to find out the simple plastic "nut/screw" that holds the agitator dogs in that needs to be removed before the agitator nut can come off
is STUCK

This was removed by inserting a friction fit socket
Doesn't work now
I've tried a piece of walnut shaped to give even better purchase that merely sheared off when applied
I tried to cast it out of solder thinking it would be tough enough but it, too, sheared
Now I have to assemble washers on a bolt or something and grind down to match the shape of the cavity and hopefully that will work

Or perhaps you've got another suggestion? Probably is a specialized tool for the job but it's so stupid it makes you pull your hair out

Still washes and drains properly
Clutch spins in spin
No spinning of laundry

I cant buy the transmission till I rule out the basket drive block

Nope

I'll attach a photo to make it clearer what the problem is

The agitator dogs are held in place by this screw spring nut thing that lifts off fully revealing the agitator nut for agitator removal

The socket is seen ..i left it in there

Dust from my wood and solder tools is seen as well lol

The piece with the square hole is removed by inserting a 1/2" drive socket extension bar and turing counter clock wise...usually you can almost remove it by hand. The entire top portion will come off leaving the bottom portion attacted the the tranny by a bolt that you you remove with a 9/16" socket.

Last thing before going to bed
I appreciate your taking the time trying to help

but

IT'S STUCK!! lol

the socket just spins ..no grab no hold no nothin'

Feel forced into making specialty tools

looks like a 4 prong spanner wrench with a 1/2 square inside connected to a socket would work really well

I've had the washer completely apart before to clean it head to tow and check stuff out/replace the clutch

I cant remove the thing.

I mean, I COULD remove it
don't want to knowingly damage all that stuff
That said

Forget about a socket for now and get the one you have stuck down in there out.

Read again what appl.tech.29501 wrote:

1/2" drive extension bar, (NOT A 1/2" SOCKET).  The 1/2" square end of the extension shaft will fit perfectly into that square hole in the top of the plastic hold down nut.

don't believe ive seen it explained that you use the JUST the mating end

Or something

Lack of terminology/familiarity

Thanks for making me understand!

Anyway, don't have an extension. If only I had I probably would made the connection

So I homebrewed it. I ground a round thing into a square thing and now the thing is out

Tomorrow I'll be taking it apart, I think
