I have an Asko W660. The other day it stopped in the middle of a cycle: no lights, no movement, no nothing. I replaced the fuses and the digital display on the front of the machine is lit up again, but it will not start, open the door, or do anything (I have since figured out how to manually open the door). I have the front and back panels taken off and I'm trying to figure out how to troubleshoot what is wrong, but I don't have a technical repair manual or any other assistance. There is an "hourglass" on the digital display that I don't remember being there before (I can't find any indication of what it means) and an error code that the user manual says indicates an open door -- but the door is not open. Please advise about how to troubleshoot further. I'm comfortable replacing anything if I know what is wrong. I've requested the service manual via PM so hopefully that will help.

Already Tried:
Replaced fuses; inspected motor brushes (look fine); made sure both pump and driver motors turn okay (manually); tested resistance on pump motor (checks out).

New development: I left the washer powered on and plugged in, unattended, for a few minutes.  When I came back, the fuses had blown again.

Tested a few resistances:

1) Main motor, assuming pins are 1-7 top to bottom:

Pins 1-2: 134.4
Pins 3-4: 3.4
Pins 5-6: 1.9
Pins 5-7: 1.2

These are off from the numbers in the manual: (68.7, 1.65, 1.52, and .58, respectively).  Is this a problem?

2) Pump motor checks out (76)

3) Heating element checks out (28.4)

4) Three-way inlet valves check out (3.6k)

5) Door lock checks out (122)

Thanks for the extras.  Assumed they'd all be under the same "600 series" label (glad I was wrong).

A few of the lines on the back of the PCB are a bit blackened.. and the little transformer-like thing on the circuit board has a small black halo around it. Is that normal?

Looks to me like the small transformer on the board has taken a jolt of electricity or just shorted out.  Should NOT have that black halo of smoke around it, (the magic smoke has been released).

Do you think it's worth trying to find the component and replace it?  The new board is $300 so I don't think I'm going to go that route.  Do you think the busted transformer could have caused other components to go out too, or is there a good chance that the thing'll start working again if I solder a new one on there?

I think you should replace the washer if you don't want to replace the control board, these machines are pieces of junk in my opinion.

if you can find the component it's worth a shot, but otherwise I agree with scott.

Any tips for finding what replacement part I need to buy? The transformer is labeled "TR1" but I don't see that in the schematic (I could be blind).

Now that I actually understand what I'm looking at, I don't have a schematic for the board itself, just all the wiring in the washer.

there was probably a # inprinted on the part but may be gone from the heat. I would try to find an electronics or TV repair shop....they might be able to identify it.

"Look before you speak"

I found some printing on the side of the transformer:

Kaschke 36/96
451

I'm assuming 36/96 is week 36 of 1996.

Searching digikey etc. for component now...
