In trying to be fair, Staber washers seems to have had good and bad ownership recommendations on the Internet. Their horizontal axis design, American manufacture, and former sales through the Samurai were all assets. Now, with an approximate eight week lead time for delivery due to limitations in suppy parts per factory, and sales not presently offered by the Samurai, my question for anybody knowledgable enough to answer: Would you recommend the purchase of a Staber washer to anyone with slightly above average mechanical inclination and willingness to learn and buy American, or the risk is too high this company is not going to be around to support their product?

The long lead time in production/shipping bothers me. So much so, that I stopped selling them, as you mentioned. I can offer other insights, too: - Last I looked (and it has been a while), I think they had some of their tech info online. That notwithstanding, their tech support via phone is fast, free, and pretty good. They'll also send tech documents on request to owners. - Manufacture of their washing machine is only about 25% of their bidness-- they do other types of manufacturing, I forgot what. The concern to me is that this percentage may continue to decrease as the Greater Depression gains momentum. Already, appliance stores are reporting flat to declining sales. - I agree with and laud your desire to "Buy Ameedican" but, sadly, so many formerly Ameedica-made products are no longer made here for various reasons: unfriendly bidness climate with high ragamalations and confiscatory taxation, asinine labor and environmental regs that make proctologists envious; and economically destructive treaties like NAFTA and GATT that actually encourage manufacturers to leave. We're just not left with many good quality domestic choices anymore. For more insight into why dis be, download and watch the movie below.

Sounds like the same crap shoot in buying "American" cars. I'm not after something that has a 100% USA ownership, design, parts, assembly, pedigree as much as "local" buying. Trying to support those that will hopefully stay in business and support my business. Buying at the farmer's market mentality. These days, that requires somewhat of a leap of faith, at a time when ratings, spirit, pocketbook, and spouse may be saying, "Why the hell are you doing that?". I'm inclined to stick with Staber and try. But, it's a personal calculation. It's easier buying tomatoes that wondering if I can get a Pontiac or Saturn fixed down the road. The Staber looks to be in-between. If anybody else has anything else factual on the company's fiscal state and how their products and service are doing in 2009, thanks very much. It's a great forum.

I'd think they'd have more sales if they had a way one could check them out. All I have to go on are internet pictures and videos. I want to actually go and see the machine, specifically the opening. How hard is it to get a comforter in and out of that door? How big of a comforter will fit? These are sorts of things you can only answer by seeing it, because you never know how big or small the person in the video's hands are. Hands are not an accurate scale.

I'll see if any of the local shops have had experience with one. So I don't sound like a fool, how does one pronounce "Staber"? Stab (Don't mess with me, I've got a knife!) er or Sta"y" (No, I don't think I'll leave here.) ber (It's cold. Turn on the heat.)

^ Nevermind... It's the second one. I also found this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fnxs601NyIw It appears to be a promotional video for a commercial unit. Funny, the official site does not mention the "System 2000". Might be an older model though. I also find it interesting that the video says that it'll spin up to 900 RPM, but now the specs say 700-750.
