A relatively new (< 1 yr) FP DEIX2 - continually allows excessive lint to accumulate on the filter mesh despite frequent lint basket emptying. Once the filter mesh gets coated, the dryer refuses to heat effectively until manually cleaned off (requires removal of the filter cover and basket carrier). The owner's manual brags about the "lint scraper" which should make cleaning the filter mesh less frequently required - the scraper is supposed to peel off the coating on the mesh and drop it in the lint basket. What am I missing? Is the scraper a mechanical component which could be malfunctioning? Is inadequate vent flow a possible cause? Any help appreciated.

P.S.
Any idea where a service manual might be had?

SAME ISSUE!  I went out on a Service Call several weeks ago and the customer complained of lint spraying out of the vent outside and into his lovely landscaping.  So, I cleaned his dryer vent.

Two weeks later, he called back, to which I dug further into the problem by removing the panels that hold the lint bucket on.  After removing these panels, there was quite a buildup of lint on the "lint scraper."  The mesh filter that surrounds the lint bucket housing.

So, after cleaning this, I was sure I had fixed the problem.  To my surprise, he called back two weeks later and said he was having the same issue.  I went back and removed the panels again.  Tons of lint.  Hardly anything in the lint bucket.

Is this a manufacturing defect?  I'm looking at replacing the "lint scraper," just to see if that fixes it.  I would love to know if anyone else has come across this issue and what they did to troubleshoot it.  Thank you in advance.

So, I just learned that there is a part called a scraper at Sears Parts Direct.  Part number 395138.  It runs about $7.  Maybe this'll work???  Gonna try it.

Today I was going back to replace the lint scraper. I open the lid, and remove the screw that holds the circular outer panel cover. I slide it slightly clockwise to pop it loose from the tub frame. I can see that lint has accumulated again around the filter and that it's not being scraped off into the bucket.

On the lint filter, I noticed a "tab." This tab is supposed to link with the outer panel cover "tabs." As the drum rotates, the tabs on the cover link to the tabs on the filter and that in turn rotates the filter. So, out of curiosity, I use my fingernail to rotate the filter. WALAH! It starts to scrape off all the lint into the lint bucket.

So, there's nothing wrong with the scraper. It's the lint filter itself. The tabs on the lint filter have worn down to the point where the outer cover can no longer pull it around to scrape the lint off. Not to mention, there's supposed to be FOUR of those tabs. I only noticed ONE and just thought that's how it was made.....until I looked it up today and found a picture of the filter.

Experience is what you get right after you need it.
