Hi, it's a Beaumark electric dryer. The schematic in the top panel has 199B2080 written on it. Also, the switch part number is 123c7130g002 which on a google search indicates a GE part. I was able to remove a small part mounted on the drum. Its shape from top view is like the US air force logo, black, two pieces stacked, two terminals each. Is this the thermal fuse, could this be the problem? How to troubleshoot? Please help. Thanks in advance.

Do not see a model number but it should be made by GE, yes, if that is a small black/silver part located on the heater housing top just ohm it, or by-pass it as a test to see if your dryer would then run, if so clear out the dryer and vent to the outside of clogs...and replace the fuse of course.

UK brand I think....use your ohm meter to see if the needle moves or not, moves it is good, does not move dead.....

OK, thanks. Actually this looks like a thermostat. The bottom sheet-metal piece attached to it has a drum-shape. Gotta find the thermal fuse.

Yes if it has 4 terminals it is not a fuse, your dryer may not have one, if it did it would be located on top of the heating element housing behind the drum under the top of the dryer...

Beaumark I think is an old Hudson Bay store unit - g.e. for sure.. On top of the heating element there should be a smaller safety thermostat. Also a broken belt will shut down unit. O.K. read the front of the post - buzzing and not starting usually means motor shot or something stopping motor from moving.There should be a small access panel at the rear , see if motor can be turned freely. Thanks very much grey one. I'll check the motor out. The belt around the drum seems to be ok. Pretty sure this is a Bay machine, as I am in Canada. I remember Beaumark as a brand from many years ago. Their TV commercial was the one with a champagne bottle smashing against the appliance, like a ship on its maiden voyage. : ) Meantime, here is the schematic in pdf. It may be bad or a bad Motor Start Switch (may not be available separately) There should be 120v across the Motor connections Brown #4 to Red # 5 while the Start Button is pushed If there is 120v, (and the Motor isn't running) then the Motor, or Motor Start Switch is bad.

I'll check if it is the motor buzzing, and I'll do the voltage test across those terminals you mention. Thanks. Is it possible that the thermostat is bad, which consequently prevents the motor from turning, which makes sense I think: if heating is not functional, then it should not waste time and energy rotating the drum with no drying results.

The motor will run regardless of whether or not the heat circuit is working, ie..air fluff cycles...the motor and heat are two different systems....this is the first we have heard of a "buzzing"? Thought the dryer was "dead"?

If motor runs regardless of heating system operation, I shouldn't have been troubleshooting the heating system at all. I mention the buzzing in the topic description. Will test the motor as RegUS instructed and post back.

Is it that narrow (about 3/8 wide) belt that is rectangular in cross-section and is over the drum? It looks good. First chance I get I'll test voltage on the motor. I tested the thermostat, btw, looks good, no infinity reading, instead low ohm value. Thanks.

start my trying to turn the drum by hand with the belt connected the drum should turn with minimal resistance and the belt should make the motor turn if the drum wont turn by hand remove the front panel and look closely inside the fan, make sure there are no socks or critters if there is noting in the fan try to turn the fan, if the fan wont turn then the motor is siezed that motor... 4j792us is no longer available, you can remove it from the machine, clamp vice grips on the shaft, then pour some good quality turbine oil down the shaft and wiggle the vice grips and see if this frees the motor up, sometimes the motor will sieze up again right away, other times it can go years afterwards. i have one buddy thats gotten over 10 years from a motor i did this to, i had told him start saving for a new dryer after the repair  and yes, that schematic is a canadian GE dryer
