After experiencing the '3 beeps of death', where the washer wouldn't power up, I pulled the MCU and found a corroded serial connector. After cleanup, the machine powers up, but immediately after beginning the fill, it stops, and the door unlocks. The diagnostic produces an F28, and by rotating the cycle selection knob, an F71. Using a scope, I can see what appears to be a serial data stream at the MCU. I can also hear a relay clicking within the MCU, so it must be receiving some kind of commands from the CCU. The windings on the motor show continuity.

What next? I hate to start swapping $200+ boards into it just to troubleshoot.

Update:
Guess no one had a clue. I pulled the MCU board again, and discovered that both of the TCLT1103 optocouplers for the serial communications path are damaged. The board looks to have had wash water dumped onto it, causing it to short out. It must be in a vulnerable location, and I wonder how many failures are due to water leaking out from the tub and onto this board. Now I'm thinking about how to better protect the board from future damage of this nature.
