Weird smell a couple of weeks ago.  Checked belt, no problem.  Washer running okay.  Today after filling up to start a cycle, everything shut down.

Now I have a tub full of water and need to get underneath to check the belt again.  Maybe I'm just lazy, but there's got to be a way to get the water out of the tub besides siphoning...RIGHT?

BTW, when I try and manually turn the tub, I don't get a lot of movement.  However, after trying that and puching the knob in to try and start the spin cycle, it starts for a few seconds then dies again.

First things first though, tell me how to get the water out first...please and thank you.

It is the weekend and I'm thinking this is going to seriously cut it to my Beer Run money.  Not to mention the fact repair parts are hard to find on a Saturday.

Thanks!

No magical way to get it out.  Can either bail, or siphon.  You can let the unit do some of the work for you by lowering the drain hose.  Once you take it out of the stand pipe and lower it below the water level, it will start to siphon.  You can fill up a bucket or a cooler at a time till the unit is manageable.  If it will not agitate, we can skip your lid switch as it is only in the circuit on spin.  Do you have a meter where we can do some checks?

What's a meter?

Just kiddin'.  1st rule of the Samurai right?  Knowing how to use it...not the sharpest tool that I have if you know what I mean.  I'll start draining if you can to walk me through the meter reading.

Thanks a ton in advance for any help you can give.

Water's drained.  Belt and pulley's look okay.  I can manually turn the belt both ways no problem.  When I power it back up and try the spin cycle, I get a slight buzzing noise but no movement of the tub.

Do you have a serial number, I show 4 different units depending on serial for this model.  When you try to put the unit in spin, do you just hear a hum from your motor for about 10 seconds or so and then a click and it shuts off??  Or is it actually running and you are getting no mechanical action whatsoever??

Serial # 12258058YK

Buzzes like a dozen mad hornets, but it keeps making that sound til I cut it off.  I've got no motor action at all.  Even with the buzzing I can't get the tub to engage.

With the motor running and not turning (Buzzing away as you described), you want to do the voltage tests outlined below.  They are all 120VAC tests.  Pull your schematic out from behind the console to help make sense if you need.  You want to do these tests with the wires connected to the motor and the unit buzzing.  I am a little baffled by your statement of the motor is humming but not turning and will only shut off when you shut it off.  The motor is designed to run (Duhh!) and when it does, it not only drops out the start winding which lowers the amp draw it also turns the fan built into the motor to help cool it.  It should be kicking off on motor overload if it is just buzzing and not running.  Set your motor into regular wash final spin section and do the tests with the motor buzzing and the wires on.

Start Winding- Red (4) to Blue (2)

Main Hi speed winding- Yellow (3) to White/Yellow (2)

also, is it the same in Agitate & Spin cycles (buzz, but no motor movement)?

While you're there, you could try it with the Belt removed.

Remember ignorance versus stupidity?  I am one ignorant white boy.  Where am I touching the probes to?  I understand the basics of how to use the VM but schematics are greek to me.

If it helps, I've identified the wires I just don't where you want me to get the reading from.

Feel free to tell me to call a repair man if I'm not up to a basic enough level.  I'd totally underand, but I really do want to be able to this myself.  My wife thinks I'm hot when I fix things myself.

Either I'm not doing something right, or I'm just not getting a reading.

Please verify what the probes should be touching to get a reading.

I know...I told you I was ignorant.

Each of those wires on the Motor (while it's buzzing) to an unpainted area (or screw)on the cabinet of the washer.

Try the Green/Black wire to chassis ground.

The meter works (read line voltage at outlet) ?
