Washer no longer spins at any speed. It did spin occasionally until yesterday. Even with help (pushing tub) it does not spin. The sivler disk on top of the gearcase does rotate in the spin cycle. I noticed that there are black pieces of partices on top of the gear case. How do I know what has malfunctioned, clutch, brake assembly, etc. Can I access clutch my just removing gear case or does the agitator have to be removed.
Model # 110.24962300
Serial # CP4821840
Thanks

| Yes it does. Silver disk on top of gearcase spins as well. I guess this is the clutch enclosure.

problem could be the clutch itself or the basket drive. wont know until you take the gearcase out. you do need to remove the agitator bolt first. if there is a lot of oil on clutch may want to replace gearcase too

if the clutch pads are all there, not worn really bad and none missing then its sounding more and more like a bad gearcase ...check the basket drive on the bottom of the brake ..its where you slid the gearcase shaft out...its a plastic arm that disengages the brake and locks into the clutch to drive the basket...if it looks ok and not broke then my money is on the gearcase...maybe someone will have a pic for you ...trying to help but im new to this forum sorry....

^the job of the geargase is to spin the clutch which it is doing.
if the basket drive is looks ok another possibility is the drive block.

Can someone explain how the clutch, basket driver, and basket block function. If the the clutch disk (silver case above gearcase) spins and the clutch lining is not spinning, than the basket would not spin. Correct. Doesn't the driver (white device above clutch with arm that is angled down into clutch area) interlock with the clutch liner?
Thanks

| the clutch spins, the edges on the pad band inside the clutch engage the brake release arm [the white dude on the bottom of the basket drive] that releases the brake and spins the basket drive, if the basket is proberlyattached [drive block] the the basket spins..rarely the white dude thingy gets broken chek that also

| the white pads on the clutch lining are a little worn. but i don't think its the clutch. there are black particles all over the top of the gear case. i noticed that most of the parts associated with the brake are black. are there any black parts in brake assembly that are plastic that fail? i have pictures of the clutch and top of gear case unfortnately they are too big for this site to attach.

| If you could reduce the picture size to less than 200k, using MS Paint, Image, Strech/Skew %

take your hand and try to rotate the white plastic piece on the basket drive counter clockwise. this should release the brake and rotate the basket drive. if it does then its the clutch assuming you drive block is ok.
sometimes a sock will get between the basket and tub and not allow it to spin

| Here is a picture of brake assembly showing the driver. Notice the oil residue on the base assembly leg. Is this normal? There were no oil drips on the floor under the washer. The gear case seemed fine. No oil leaking. Still wonder wear the oil on the leg??????? Attachment: Driver 1.JPG (Downloaded 17 times)
