in the picture above that shows the oil on the assembly leg any idea where this came from?  it is on all three legs and the washer cabinet.  but like i said before, there are no drips on the floor and the gear case is not wet.  to spray around like that it would have to come off a rotating part like the gear case shaft.  maybe gear case seal bad and the oil worked its way up the rotating shaft.

how hard is it to take the basket apart to check out the basket drive block.  i'm this far, should i bother?

I would grab the plastic driver on the brake and turn it to the right...this should release the brake and turn the tub....if it turns the tube then everything there should be ok and point more towards the gearcase or clutch ....

the oil is coming out of the gearcase and getting slung off the clutch onto those supports. i would replace the gearcase, clutch and coupler while you're in there.

I have replaced the clutch and am trying to reinstall  the gear case .  Problem - the basket and brake assembly have drop about an inch so when I slide the gear case back in I am about and an inch short of mounting studs.

Questions:

How do I release the brake without turning the whole basket to push whole assembly back up where it belongs?

I noticed there are two little plastic cups hanging off the base assembly.  Each plastic cup has a brass looking stud in them.  Each stud is about 2.5 inches long with a flat head on one end and a hole through the shaft on the other end.  Any idea on what these are for?

Thanks for everyones info.  This site has been great.

Just turn that white plastic lever on the clutch till it is on the other side of the spring, the tranny will then go up all of the way..

well I replaced the clutch, put it all back together and the spin cycle works again.

one problem.  when we did the first load of wash, at the end of the wash cycle after it drained there was a huge bang. the washer actually moved about a foot to the side.  i than noticed that I had the hot and cold water lines reversed.  after i reconnected the hoses properly the next two loads worked fine.  could the water lines have something to do with the bang?

I still have to deal with the oil leak from the gear case but that is under warranty until December of this year.  Does anyone know if Sears will honor the warranty if I remove gear case and take it to them?
