I suspect the Thermal Cut-Out L205-40F part No. 3388697 or 279048 is not working well and is flaky. I just wonder if I could use a compatible??? L205-40F part that I have laying around that is part no. 3403140. They have different physical characteristics that lead me to believe they are not compatible.

Could be a two timer too ;) checked and I believe it says high limit from several sources. It has a one time thermal fuse on the dryer  in another location also.

1) Disconnect Vent at rear of Dryer. Check for good air-flow.

2) Measure Temperature at rear of Dryer -  empty load, Timed Dry, Normal Heat.
Should cycle somwhere between about 135F & 160F.

3) Gas Valve Coils could be intermittent when warm.

Before you waste your money on buying limits and timer replace these coils. They work once and quit then cool off several hours later and work once more. They do not cost that much and are very simple to replace.

Hopefully these temperatures are not too high.

125- 178 Degree F

High Heat Timed (the only temperature for timed)

115 - 165 Deg F

Automatic Dry Miser (Low Heat)

120- 176 Deg F

Automatic Dry-Miser (High Heat)

Energy Preferred Auto Setting *

Used the TRUTEMP gage from Target $16. It has a nice feature which has an alarm if the temperature rises past a set temperature.  It also has a 3' cable and Magnet Mounting feature for the display which lets you drink beer comfortably while watching the temperature go up and down. WHeeeeeeee!

After installation, I noticed the dryer would keep running when the door was opened.   Turned the timer dial to off and tapped on the start button and that got it to reset. I then turned the timer to on and the dryer correctly did not turn on. Should I expect this thing to fail soon and order a new start switch?

The Door Switch should stop everything (except the Drum Light if so equipped)

The Push to Start Switch is out of the circuit (by-passed) as long as the Motor is turning.
