This dryer will make a humming sound when turned on, but it won't turn.  Is the motor dead?  Fan belt?  Please help.  Thank you.

Sounds like the belt is broken and the motor is running....

could be a bad motor. try rotating the drum some by hand and see if that makes any difference.

Most times motor is bad but be sure to check blower wheel for obstruction first.

Thanks for the input.  Sounds like I was headed in the right direction.

I will tear into the machine and see if first the belt is broken.  If not, I will look at the motor.  How do you check a bad motor?  I guess I will wiggle the shaft to see if the bearings are shot and/or if the thing turns easily or not.  After that I am at a loss.

I am not sure what the "blower wheel" is about in the last reply.

Thanks for all the input.  It really does help.

Cant pull up your model # but blower wheel most likely located bottom left front of dryer and will be visible upon removal front panel of dryer. Golf pencils and pens sometimes make their way into the wheel via pockets and through lint screen thus restricting wheel and motor from turning. Just a possibility.  Let us know.

I fixed it!  Thank you so much!

It turned out the belt had jumped the pulley.  So I put the belt back on the pulley, reassembled, and voila!, it works.  I wasn't too impressed with the sound it made starting.  Sounded like an old Model A starting up!!  But it got up and going and so I think/hope it is fixed.

Thanks for your help.  If you read anything I didn't do or should have done, let me know.  Otherwise, thanks a million!
