Need some help on this one.  Wanted to upload a small video so you can see and hear my dilemma, but I'll try and explain it here.

Machine makes an odd noise during the spin cycle only.  Thought perhaps it was the agitator stripped out at the top of the shaft, so I removed it and there is no sign of wear. Started the machine on the spin cycle without the agitator--same sound. However after reinstalling the agitator, and grabbing ahold of it during the spin--the sound disappears (yes I was able to hold the agitator still while spinning--is this a no-no?). Brake and tranny appear to work fine otherwise. Also recently replaced the motor coupler, thinking that was the problem. nada.

Help!  I'd be happy to email the small 2MB video file I have of the washer in action, sound included!

Nope--all good there. Of course I can move the tub around, but no noise or any click when I do  that.

The gearbox is a neutral drain, it drains, pauses, then the spin basket spins...Is the sound the same from start of the spin cycle?.... When it is draining but not spinning?

Hey Appliance Assistant,

I will email the vid to you shortly, but to answer your question, yes, I replaced all three parts to the coupler.

Pull the agimutator off that puppy and let's have a look at the drive block.

Pull the who outta what?  LOL  Will I be able to see the drive block by removing the agitator? Or, do I have to remove the tranny, brake, etc?

What am I looking for when I see it?

in my experience with that noise it is a failed or failing tranny (3-4 last couple months) we do alot of used business so I have plenty of trannys around and just change it out and rebuild later...you can purchase the parts to rebuild one though....on a couple these I have torn apart the spin gear looks to be the culprit as it is usually worn down pretty good...good  luck

Thanks Poobah for the insight.  It's looking more like its the tranny. I'm gonna be tearing into this tomorrow, as well as get a look at the drive block and take a few pics for Samurai to see.

I'll get back to you guys shortly. Appreciate the help!

Where can I get the parts to rebuild the tranny?

I just order a bunch of parts, for my washer, and I hate the idea of throwing something away (the size of a tranny) that could be rebuilt). I might store the current tranny away for the next time I run into gearcase problems.

Thanks.

I see there are lots of rebuilt tranny's on the ebay and other locations, I just want to be able to rebuild the tranny that came with my machine...I have another that I hope will arrive today along with my other parts from this site.

Suggest you try Ebay - remanufactured tranny for $60 + shipping ($84.60 total). Bought one and it worked great. Might be cheaper than buying individual parts.

I ordered several parts from here (I pray they come in today, so I can get this Washing machine back together).  Can we get rebuild parts for the tranny from here?   It just doesn't make economical $en$e to spend too much on a new tranny (along with the other parts), when a new machine and warranty, is a few dollars more.

Although I am having some fun and confidence putting the machine, that I currently have back together, thanks to the 'great assistance from this site' (I referenced it many, many, times).

ok, purchased a refurbished tranny and went to install when I noticed a clip underneath the washer even before I began to dismantle.  After racking the brain I could not find ANY place where this thing went to, however after reviewing a clip on YouTube, I have a hunch.  Take a look at this pic.  Anyone see anything wrong with the shaft that connects the brake and clutch assembly?

I'm thinking another part is needed . . .
