We've used our Asko Dryer for 5 years, and recently the dryer began rumbling. When the dryer is first used, it is quiet and without vibrations. After about 15 minutes or so, it begins to rumble on each turn of the drum. If we shut it off, let it cool down, and start it again, it works fine for a while, but the rumble returns.
Any ideas?

Clean out that blower wheel-- it's the ichiban rumble-maker in that otherwise-decent dryer.

Thanks for your reply.

I tried cleaning out the blower wheel. There wasn't much lint in there (about enough to make a mouse's tail, not the lint rat that others have found.) We'll run a load through the dryer today to see if it makes a difference.

When I opened the blower unit, I found the thin foam insulation along the blower opening was very worn. It seems to be O.K. for now, but it will need to be replaced the next time the blower unit is removed. Is there a diagram that identifies the foam part replacement?

I cleaned out the blower, and ran a medium size load through the dryer. Same problem. It ran smoothly for about 15 minutes, then began to rumble during each rotation of the drum.

Very likely the fit between the motor spindle and the fan blade has become loose. When it warms up, it will rumble.

I checked the fan in the blower, and it was snug, but I removed it and tightened it again. It's tight and has no play between the shaft and the fan. The fan seems to be working correctly?

When we first heard the vibrating rumble, we thought the dryer might be out of balance and the washload was thumping in the drum. We checked the balance of the dryer, and it was O.K. Because the dryer runs smootly when it's cool, we've pretty much eliminated that possibility.

Any ideas?

You'll need to run the dryer with it moved out of place so you can get behind it and in front of it while it's running so you can use your earballs to localize the general source of the noise: front or back. If front, then we're still talking about the blower wheel in all likelihood. If from the back, then we start suspecting drum rollers.

I put a load in the dryer today, and it began to rumble right away. The unit was still cold. This time the rumble was constant and very loud. I tried to pinpoint where the vibration was coming from, and it appeared to be right in the middle of the unit from back to front.
My wife is losing patience with me, so Looks like I have to get a local service tech out here to fix it.

I do not service Asko but as Samurai suggested getting some earballs on the situation with the dryer either where it is or pullled out just do the obvious checks of laying your hand on the outer panels to see if it could be just a loose panel vibration..or if you can access the inards of this beast check for some sort of tub vibration (possibly rollers or the like)...were there any fins broken off the blower wheel..good  luck

I went along with the early suggestions to this thread because that is what an apprentice is supposed to do.  They focused on the blower unit. When I inspected the blower wheel, it was in excellent shape, and the amount of lint in the blower compartment was minor. No, there were no damaged fins on the blower.

The sound seems to be in the middle of the unit, and I don't know if the early posters understood how loud the sound is. If this website allowed sound files, I would have recorded the sound and uploaded it.

The drum seems to be the source of the vibrations, but I have never seen the inside of the unit, so I don't know what moving parts are where, and what could be the cause. I suspect it's going to be the drum rollers and/or belt, but I'm only guessing.

Thanks for your suggestions.

You can make a video, with sound, and post it to Youtube.

Unfortunately, I am even less skilled with computers than I am with dryers. I'll see if a friend who is a master of electrons can help me with the YouTube project (not to be confused with crafting a tsuba.)

Meanwhile, I read other posts on the site that indicate you can send a file of the Asko dryer manual. It would be enlightening to actually see what I am up against to solve my problem with the dryer. Is the manual for the T780 available?

there is a manual available but there seems to be an error in it...out of 91 pages only about 4-5 are present...I tried it yesterday...Samurai is usually the one that does the actual manuals so he prob. has it ....I was doing some checking last night and saw another model by asko that said it had a rear bearing, since  I don't service these I couldn't say and don't really know if it was the same model as yours...but if it does that very well could be the culprit, in the Frig & GE they will cut a rusty when bad....hopefully Samurai will have what ya need...he should be along in alittle while

After receiving suggestions on the cause of the "rumble," and the possible cure, I decided it was above my skills to fix the dryer. I phoned a number of service companies here in Connecticut, and most of them declined the opportunity to fix the dryer. Two said they could look at it, but I would have to wait 2 to 4 weeks.

I chose the one that gave me an appointment in 2 weeks.  When he called to confirm day the before, he asked about the problem. When I told him about the rumble, he said it was the rollers which are a bear to replace so he didn't have enough time to fix it the next day, and it would be a long wait for the parts because he doesn't stock them. When I told hime I had a new belt and a pair of new rollers (thanks to the help from Fixitnow.com), he said he would call me when he could fit me in, probably in a day or two. It's been another 2 weeks, and he has disappeared. I don't expect to ever see him!

I've come to realize how difficult it is to get Asko appliances serviced, so my question is: Which dryer is the easiest dryer for service companies and/or DIYers to fix?

So...after reading this and other posts related to T780 dryer rumble, I ordered the replacement rollers and belt. I was able to replace the blown out roller without actually taking the drum all of the way out or taking the belt off. With the top and the back off, it's possible to reach the two screws which hold the front panel on from the inside. After doing this, you can reach through the font door opening to access the 13mm nut securing the drum rollers.

Tip - take lot's of camera phone pics of the wiring so that you have a reference when re-connecting!

It's nice to have a quiet dryer again :)
