As my washer is attempting to spin, I begin to smell an electrical heat smell.  A small amount of "smoke" appears and the tub does not spin at previous full speed.  The tub will spin slowly.  Also, the water is not draining as fast as usual.  Everything seems to be in slow motion.  The machine also begins to make an unusual "squeeling" sound.

The unit is designed to slip and allow the water to empty first so the centrifugal force does not spin it up over the sides.  If you have a pump going out, it could cause exactly what you are seeing.  Try turning the pump by hand to see if it appears to be binding.  Also make sure the motor can pivot smoothly from left to right on it's glides.  This is how it creates enough tension to drive the tub up to hi speed.  I assume your drain is not kinked or exceeding the factory supplied drain line??

I am from Georgia also.  Thanks for the quick reply.  The pump turns freely by hand, and the motor has a good deal of free play to move from left to right.  The drain line had no kinks.  I have removed the front and side panels in order to have easy access to whatever might be going wrong.  All three pulleys underneath seem to have a lot of small black pieces of debris.  It seems that the belt has been suffering while in operation.

This machine is bad for the motor pulley melting, take a close look at it. Usually the sides of the belt will show the signs if this is the problem (shiny looking).

if your smelling electrical and seeing smoke, where is the smoke coming from, the belt or the motor. try pumping water out of the machine and check the flow of water coming out ( should be a solid forceful stream of water)

at this point it sounds like either your motor is going out or something is wrong with the pump ( I have seen the pump turn freely but the impellers inside not work properly)

post back with your findings.
