O' great master... Lowly grasshopper needs help with crazy washer. Bought Maytag Neptune 5500B in Oct 04. It will not spin and remove water from the cloths. Used advice in forums to check using dignostic program. Heavy soil + Delicates and then spin resulted in readings of 99, 64, 64 and on final test was 99 again. Machine makes "whirring" noise but no spin. Please help!

If the unit is ramping up and down, up and down during the spin diagnostics, you probably have an open out of balance circuit (three switches in series). On your schematic you will have a test that will take you through the testing of this circuit. All the switches should be closed. If the circuit comes back open in your test, you will either have to check each individual switch with a meter, or jump them out one at a time.

YOU CAN DO IT!! WE'RE BUD DRINKERS!! That practically related!! In Georgia anyway. At least do the Out of Balance test. Hit Delicate and Heavy Soil at the same time and hold them until the display comes up 00. Once in this mode, hit the hand wash key. This will put you in a board input test. Once in this mode, hit the temp down arrow. This will show the OOB circuit condition. u0 for balanced, uI for unbalanced.

check your manual I think it's 2-11 through 2-13 on out of balance sensors

Appl Tech, Just need a little bigger bone please. Can you narrow down the part we are talking about. Is it one of the unbalance switches or something on the curcuitboard? I think there are three unbalance switches... Thanks for the quick responses

Do you have a volt ohm meter? If not, we can jump each switch one at a time with a piece of wire or metal paperclip to find the culprit. One switch is mounted to the front of the tub dead center when you take the front panel off and the other two are under the main top. Jumping one at a time and then going back into the test mode will determine which switch is bad. Also give a little tug on each wire that goes to the switch, you may just have a loose connection. To remove the front of the washer * Remove the screws that hold the hinge to the unit, not the hinge to the door. * Remove the screws and plates on the opposite side of the hinges that would be used if you were switching the door. * Grab the front panel at the top on each side and pull toward you. The front panel will hinge toward you and can be removes while the door stays on for testing.

OK!!! Me and the 12 year old son dug into the guts of the Neptune and determined that the second (under cement) unbalance switch was the offender. We checked all wires and pushed in the white button. The washer then tested u0. Spin test worked like a charm and now a small load is doing a test run. Thanks to "trying to help" and "appl.tech" for the assist!
