I have a Frigidaire washer model # FWX833AS1 that is four years old.

The cycle will start and the timer will advance until the washer is full of water, and then everything just stops.  No motor sounds, no agitation.  I've replaced the timer thinking that is what it was.  If I advance the timer, it will drain and spin the drum with no problem.

Manually, I can turn the drum only in one direction. It just won't agitate.

I've taken the front off and can move the motor in both directions, but can only move the transmission in one direction.

I've seen another message similar to this for a different model, and the suggestion was to test the pressure switch.  Can you please elaborate on how to do this?

Thanks

John

Check your lid switch, on the new Frigidaires the lid switch is wired so that the machine will stop agitating when the lid is opened.

Pop the top up and take the two wires that go to the microswitch that is attached to the side of the switch and hook them together with a jumper and tape it up so that it won't short out on anything and give it a test.

Here's your new lid switch/lock assembly: CLICK HERE to see and/or order

But won't a defective lid switch also stop the drum from spinning? Thats part of the safety switch isn't it?  It spins fine while it drains, it just doesn't agitate..

Tonight I took the agitator out, and removed the inner drum to make sure there was nothing stuck inside that might be stopping the agitation cycle.  I also checked the motor connections to ensure that all were secure.

Did you even try what I said before wasting your time tearing futher into the machine, GEEEE what would I know, I've only been doing appliance repair for 21years now.

There are two parts to the new style Frigidaire lid switches, the agitate system works thru the microswitch attached to the side of the switch assembly, the spin/lock circuit works thru the internal switch parts that can't be seen.

My humblest apologies Master,

I did connect up the switch with a jumper and the machine started agitating....followed by a round of forehead smacking....

The greenest green grasshopper...

If there are NOT any young children in the house there really won't be any problem with leaving it bypassed as long as the jumper is insulated and tied up out of the way with the other wires.

There used to not be hardly any machines around that wouldn't agitate with the lid up, (the switch was just so the basket would stop spinning when the lid was raised so noone got there arms ripped off reaching into a spinning basket), it's most likely some new government regulations or some dip wad tried sueing some one when they reached in when it was agitating.

Cobtinuation of an old thread:

I have the same model washer and the same no agitate problem. I do smell a burning smell with a motor hum that is followed by a click near the motor. The hum stops. The click is heard again. I'm assuming it's a thermo protestion switch of some sort resetting.

I did try to jumper the switch with the same results-still no agitate.

I have the wiring diagram for the model, but can't really read it the way they have it set up. I have a meter and have used it to fix my dryer (thanks to you in the past).

What am I looking for?? Timer switch, capacitor?????

TIA
