I have a Carrier electric heat and air with thermostat upstairs not working.  Is there some kind of adjustment.  I see a dial on the bottom but don't understand how it works etc.  Any help would be appreciated.  You have helped me on my washer and dryer and ice maker and now looks like thermostat not working.  It has never been accurate but now appears to be 15 degrees or more off.

What kind of thermostat? A make & part number would help if possible or just post a picture with the cover on & one with it off.

Is the question just a matter of correct temperature control or does the system not work at all?

The very first thing is to make sure the thermostat is level. Since this uses mercury bulbs it is calibrated only when level.

The next item is the heat anticipator slide located at the bottom. This sets the cycling rate and should match the amp draw running thru the thermostat. The higher the number the longer the cycles, if set too low it will cause frequent cycling so let's leave it alone for now unless you can verify the amperage.

The indicatior on the cover is adjusted on the back usually with a screw of some sort. Using another thermometer you can make an adjustment.

If correcting the level doesn't work we will check the anticipator setting. Post back your results

it looks like the temp is about right and the thermostat is level.  The setting with the dial on the bottom left is at the lowest setting.  thanks,
