Have not had this machine very long love it when it's working. I've been putting off calling Sears - and have tried looking up parts with no luck - specifically the Central Control Unit and MCU - can't find parts numbers (also door lock assembly). I'm considering replacing the parts myself (or trying) as I've heard how much calling a repairman costs.....confounded by the fact that we live way out in the boonies and nobody wants to come here (and if they do we'll be sure to pay!). Any suggestions - is it folly to try to replace parts on this maching ourselves?

According to the Kenmore Number Decoder your machine is made by Whirlpool. Anyhow, that model number brings no results at our parts partner. Was it perhaps acquired from Canada? Their model numbers differ from USA's even though the machines were similar... which is stupid. Model number comes up OK at the $ear$ parts site. This is a regular problem on these. Nope, not purchased in Canada. Tried calling Sears today what a waste of time. She didn't know anything ab out the warranty so I did what I should have done in the beginning - I looked in the book. I believe the part needed is under warranty and guess I'll have to get it and then have a local repairman install it. What a pain - it sometimes goes through a cycle and sometimes doesn't. I've looked at everything on this web site and it has been a big help - and I feel better knowing lots of folks with these maching have this problem hehehe thanks for the help!
