You may laugh, but the smell is distinctive and is most accurately described as "wet dog smell" Here is what I did so far: * I checked the shredder disposal unit, and it is clean. * I ran through some vinegar and some lemon juice, which helped for a short while. The smell came back shortly after that. * I took apart the P -rap under the sink, and it looked pretty clean. The only thing I didn't do was try different detergent. I am using walmart brand, which alway worked well, but perhaps they changed the formula. Any Ideas?

I guess I stumped you all. I have another theory as to what may have happened. The smell only lasted for about a week. I remember having brown water before it started to the dishwasher started smelling like that. I didn't think anything of it, because this happens sometimes when they flush the hydrants and so forth. Any water experts out there that can tell me that this had anything to do with it?

Probably the smell was related to the brown water. Sometimes (luckily not too often) we also get even quite clear water, yellowish at worst, which smells like doggy sweat.
