I have a 3 year old Maytag MDB8600 dishwasher that doesn'tcompletely drain. Had a local serviceman come out and sez its the drain pump. I checked the drain line and ran the dishwasher on a rinse cycle-once again not all the water drained out--I could hear the drain pump working and doesn't seem to make noise (other than the water being pumped). I started the rinse cycle and then cancelled it (almost immediately before any real amount of water would enter) whereby it did drain the tub. My question is could there be a problem in the timing? It seems as if it (drain pump) ran longer I wouldn't have the problem. My thought is that the drain pump either works or it doesn't.
Also the servicemantold me it would be 220.00 to install a new drain pump. Not that I want to cheat anyone out of a living but how hard is it to put in a drain pump? Looks like a I have to pull the machine and (from the parts diagrams) looks like a twist fit.
Any insights would be appreciated.
Mahalo,
Willy

| Pulling and re-installing the unit is where most of the money is going. If you want to tackle it yourself go for it! First thig you should look at though is the drain line Look for possible partial blockages, etc.

Thanks a heap honorable Master for the diagrams of proper d/w drain installations. If so miserable a learner may add -- please note that your knowledgeable drawings all show a "vented" drain port, as well as an anti-siphon loop in the drain hose. These are the most important aspects of d/w draining - kind and honorable sir

I've got the same exact problem. And I also have the problem that the dishwasher does a horrible job of cleaning dishes on the top rack. I've been living with the draining problem for the last two years, but it's only within the last year that the cleaning quality has gone kaput. And that seems to be the bigger fatal flaw with this dishwasher - the cleaning quality - it may start out good, but it seems to go bad at some point based on most of the reviews I'm reading on http://www.epinions.com.
