I have got a GE Potscrubber 900, model GSD900G-01 dishwasher and the motor is humming, but not doing anything else. Any suggestions on how to check it out. I see that a replacement motor is $140 so I think an 18 year old dishwasher is not worth repairing if it is the motor.

A few years later. Same humming problem, Potscrubber 720. I read the post but couldn't get the kick plate off. I think it's rusted on. I'm not sure about the wisdom of what happened next, but it worked. I figured the pump was stuck, maybe gooky, because I go months and months without using my dishwasher. I used a wet vac to get rid of the water. I removed the filter (2 screws) from the bottom of the washing compartment. It was pretty yucky. Then I poured a box of baking soda into the drain. On top of that, I poured vinegar. It bubbled up like in 9th grade science class. I waited a few minutes and then poured a tea kettle of boiling water directly into the drain. (I worried a little that it would melt something. It didn't.) I let it all stew for 20 minutes, and then turned the dishwasher on. That was all it needed. Patty
