Pull the cover off the ice-maker, get yourself a jumper wire and jump V to L. This will activate your water valve...listen for the valve energizing. If you hear it and there is no water, make sure the inlet tube that feeds the Ice-maker is not frozen shut. If that's clear you need to check the valve itself. It's located in the rear behind the bottom cover. Should be a twin valve....Ron

Rookie, The fill valve is located on the back of the ref. down by the floor, but it sounds like your ice maker has a short at about the fill position, should not be any sparks from the head. You will probably need to replace the ice maker for starters. The rake stalls at about the 2:o"clock position, so the fill should be just before this, and yes there are clicks inside the head as different things are activated. Since you were able to jump this ice maker it has a printed circut board and there is nothing in there that is repairable. Thanks for the kind words, they are what keep us helping! Should, however look at the ice maker mold itself. It it is flaking or covered with crud, see how much more the whole ice maker costs and compare. If not much difference I would replace the whole icemaker. If so see if yours has the flat or round plug. The generic kits have both harnesses in the kit but the Whirlpool ones do not, have to order the right one. I do not know which is sold on this site, would have to ask the Samurai that question. I am just a tech out in tech land helping reply to the questions.

Peg, I have installed the new maker.....in 2 days' it's only made 1/8 - 1/5 of a bucket? Seems really slow... Should it fill water with every cycle? Everything seems to rotate etc...but no water, almost never. It's a Kenmore 106.9552850 side by side....1996 model (was Rookie) miffed... Last edited on Sat Jun 11th, 2005 05:03 am by Banzai Fix it |

Jumping T to H on the IM head will start a harvest cycle if it is beyond the 50 minute time out, and yes the ice maker should fill with water after each harvest. The ice maker gives power to the fill valve for aprox. 8 seconds. So if it does not fill with water each time you either have a defective ice maker, the fill valve going bad on the ice make side or something restricting water flow to the ice maker from the valve. The fill valve can go bad on the ice maker side, thru the door side or both. The whole valve has to be replaced for any of these problems.

also try replacing the water filter,be sure and purge out any air after you do by extracting several litres of water through the water dispenser after youve changed it.
