My dishwasher will not drain completely out of the bottom after finishing the wash, rinse or dry cycle.

Model #GSD5120D02BB, it is a GE Profile Triton XL

I took the screen out at the bottom and found no obstructions. Removed the hose from the drain motor and found no obstructions. Also checked the drain tube and nothing there. The air gap seems to be okay. It is one that is high just under the counter top and drains into a separate line.

Was wondering if it could be the pump or something else.

Serial number is MAZ90523B

This unit is about 3 years old.

You could attach a hose directly to the pump to see if it will drain completely

uphill into your kitchen sink.

First see if an obstruction such as broken glass is just inside the drain outlet on the pump

it should be clear when the solonoid opens the waterway or if you do it manually

Did you look inside all the tubing under there?

This might you find interesting first of all. "Empty noise" does it make? Water some is normal. Remains how much water? Soapy is it?

I would not say the water is soapy. Seems clear enough to me. About 3/4 - 1" of water is the maximum amount left in the bottom. It does not make any unusual noises.

Have same problem with my dishwasher Triton profile.
i think its timer but not sure. Work around for it is to
restart dishwasher with rinse only and as soon as it starts
push reset and it will drain water out.javascript:emoticon('

Thanks for the tip. I tried the start on "rinse" and then "cancel" and it drained perfectly. Do you think it is the timer? Are those difficult to replace? Can I get that part on this site?

Dishwasher has a rubber flapper style check valve located between the soil collection chamber and the drain line. These go bad and restrict the water from draining out. Also some models have a valve under screen in back called a piston valve if this has debris keeping it from opening and closing or is deteriorated you will need to change this also.Start washer let fill initiate pump out water should exit rapidy into drain if its slow check both items above

Ash, what is your model number. There are different pump/motors and yours sounds like a different style??? PLease post this.

Oh Mighty and Powerful Appliance Guru,

My GE Triton, model # GSD5134D00WW, has resisted my attempts to repair. It also refuses to drain completely. I have checked hoses, have no air gap, made sure trap was clear, tried rinse-reset trick, and replaced drain solenoid. Stubborn dishwasher still confounds me.

Is the piston assembly the next logical step? Check valve? What tips do you have for troubleshooting to locate the specific culprit short of replacing parts to see which one works?

P.S. Please speak slowly and use small words -- I'm a beginner and just learning my way around appliance maintenance.

If I could make a suggestion to the people needing help out there. Start a new topic. We are trying to find answers for several different people with different dishwashers and it makes it very difficult to try to answer ONE poster when others join the same thread with different units. I will stop replying to threads where other posters start asking questions about their different unit with what sounds like the same problem in someone elses post. :knifehead:

I have found the problem with my dishwasher.
The check valve is worn and letting water back in the tub while it is draining there for not draining all the water out. Temp repaired with a cork until i can get a new check valve. Thanks for all the help
