Hi, We've had our Kitchenaid dishwasher (Model # KUDS01ILBS1) for about 2.5 years. It started acting up at Christmastime. The dishes just were not getting clean. A local appliance repairman showed us how the screen under the chopper blade was completely clogged. All appeared well until about a week ago when we noticed the dishes were not getting clean again (now-much to my dismay-we're even rinsing). My husband took the DW apart and the screen was completely clogged again. The first time it took 2.5 years, now it's been six weeks-with rinsing! My husband thought maybe the repair guy didn't put the blade back properly. Now, the dishes are clean, but the DW is stopping with 42 minutes left on the digital display (normal cycle) with the "water heating" buttion illuminated. It seems to get stuck there for about half an hour. I know the water is hot enough - 170+ degrees from the tap. What could be wrong? Is there some kind of sensor that may be bad? This was part of the original problem also, but we can't remember at what point is was getting stuck. Thank you! Lisa

Based on all my reading on this board and the information on the spec sheet (despite the fact that I now have a headache from squinting at the teeny tiny print), we ran the diagnostic cycle on the DW. I thought I had a thermistor (whatever that is) problem, but the diagnostics did not indicate that. Here is what happened. The Sense/Soak led came on during Interval 3. However, it did not "skip immediately to drain interval 1" which would indicate a closed pressure switch. None of the Diagnostic notes gave me an indication of what could be wrong. The thermistor appears to me OK.

See if the dishwasher is really spraying water around inside the compartment: place a glass right side up in the upper rack, run the dishwasher, listen for when the spraying is supposed to start (toward the end of the water fill) and then time for one minute, open the door, glass should be mostly full-- if not, replace the motor/pump assembly.

Ok, now check to make sure that the dishwasher basin is draining completely at the end of the spray cycle. Ok, so it's filling a and draining correctly, that leaves temperature delay. What's happening is the dishwasher is filling with water on the second or third wash and it's getting cold water. It has to stall the cycle until it brings that cold water up to 140F.

You can try increasing the thermostat setting on your hot water heater. Also, make sure that all-important initial fill is hot by running the hot water tap at the sink until the water is hot and *then* starting the dishwasher.

Hi again. I don't always, but this morning I DID run the hot water before I started the dishwasher. Also, my tap water is 165+ degrees! I'm perplexed.

the thermister [located in sump area] senses water temp. and reports same to electronic control. 1/2 sounds o.k. to bring temp up to spec. i don't think you have steady 165 water [thermometer problem, electric hot water heater with one element bad??] that's TOO hot, it's dangerous if you do. this d/w not that complicated don't despair and get rid of it. if there was a problem with heater you would be having washability/drying problems.

Thank you for your kind reply. You are right, the water temp is not a steady 165 degrees, but it does get that hot. I don't know how long it stays that hot. We have a forced air heating system/no water heater. -I'm not really sure how it works. The DW is still taking about 3 hours to complete its cycle. I've not run it in a couple of weeks, and was going to stop by the appliance store this morning to talk to someone there. I want to run the diagnostic test again, so I was here looking for the how-to's when I saw your post. It is still getting stuck at the exact same point in the cycle. Do you think the thermastor is the problem? Thank you!

165 is waaaay too hot. It needs to be 120-135. Beyond that, it is dangerous and you can get seriously scalded.

I have the same model and the same "issue". At 43, it waits for 30 mins before kicking off again. After read etc, I am thinking it's user error. I never noticed it doing this before but I was reading here for a different issue I was having. My GF bought the "cakes" type of detergent and it's not cleaning worth a crap. I just cleaned everything and checked things out. I put in some grain type detergent and I'm running a load now. I DID set the setting for a HIGH TEMP rinse (I don't usually do this) and the Sani Rinse option. Do you have these set as well? I never seen mine stop on 43 before OR I never noticed it. She might not being lying about the 165 temp. When a load is done in Kitchenaid the dishes are WHOA hot. So, this may be due to the options she set beyond the "normal" with no options.

I got the load done and all of the detergent did not leave the holder (pour in grain type). I seem to recall having this issue in the past. I could be putting in to much. I cleaned the entire unit and going to run some vinager through a normal cycle without the added functions to test if the above setting caused the 30 pause on 43 mins left. I will let you know.

Hi, I am running the normal cycle. The spec sheet states that the DW will stay in "thermal hold" mode until the water reaches a specified temperature for the cycle OR until the default time limit for the thermal hold expires. This is what is happening to me... The default time limit is being met. SO, based on absolutely no experience with this whatsoever, the water is not getting hot enough OR whatever it is that detects the temperature of the water and relays that to whatever it must relay it to, is not functioning. How do I tell? The diagnostic cycle runs properly. My tap water can get to 165. Yes, it can scald. I have to warn anyone who comes to do dishes. It has always been that hot. The oil burner guy told me he turned it down, once, many moons ago, but it didn't do anything. I have no water heater. I've just gotten used to it.

OK, after going through the testing that the Samuri recommend to you Lisa I discovered that my pump is not pumping water. Placing a glass right side up on both the top and bottom yeilds no water even after a full wash cycle in any mode. So Samurai, bad pump? Or possible clogged impeller on the pump? So LIsa, since we have the same symptoms, maybe you should review Samurai's advice and recheck?
