I have a kenmore gas range that I think has a bad thermostat.  At first it would not turn of without some wiggling of the knob.  Now it is not heating correctley (to hot) and ignites on its own even when turned off and will not turn off withou unplugging the range.  Is this the thermostat and is it hard to replace?

It may be a bad thermostat but, honestly, I thermostat failure occurs much less frequently than ignitor failure.

If the ignitor checks out, then and only then would I focus my keen gaze upon the thermostat.

Do I access that through the back of the stove?  What does that part cost ?

Most ignitor replacments are done from inside the oven.  Post a model number for more specfic help.
