Hello, Samurai, my verbose friend. First, let me say how impressed we are with your eloquent and detailed repair advice on this matter. Unworthy though I be, please allow me to add the tiniest of rat droppings of additional information to the vast palace of pearls you have so graciously just laid before us. One item being that the solenoid can be located in this diagram as item 3 and direct link to the replacement part.

That deflector has to lift far enough up to allow the cubes to be dispensed whole, if for some reason the deflector is not raising high enough the cubes get crushed by the blades. You may have to disassemble the ice bin and make sure the deflector flap is securely attached to the rod that engages into the solenoid stirup in the back. Make sure the rod that engages into the stirup is not bent out of shape also.
