My 6 year old boy was washing his cup on our GE ref (model # GSS25SGMBBS) using the water and ice dispenser the other night. When my wife caught him and told him to stop.... she noticed afterwards that the dispenser won't stop dispensing ice or water (depending on where the button is at the time). The only way for it to stop dispensing is to press the control button for 3 secs.

Ever since then, all way do now is to press the control button every time we wanted to get water or ice from the dispenser and then press the same button afterwards for it to stop dispensing.

Any idea or help in fixing this type of problem is appeciated. Thanks!

Read this, your box may be in the moisture program, will depend on your serial number.  If it is in the program the door is full of ice because of not enough insulation and everything is rusted and corroded.   Both doors would need to be replaced.  If it is not in the program you still have something sticking in the disp area causing it to feed at all times, probably the disp board.

Read this.......will add the update in a few also...

Important Change to 4th Year Moisture Program On any service call for any failure on the listed models/serial numbers, please call customer relations once the diagnosis is complete at 1-800-437-9283, prompt 1. The serial number range on the affected models has been expanded to include all serial numbers from AA2-ZD2.

Thanks!

I tried removing all the ice from ice bucket and then emptied all the remaining ice in the dispenser tube... but still it continued to dispense ice or water depending on which LED is lit.

Re moisture program .. how do I changed this one?

Many thanks again.

Your model number is in the program. See if your serial number is in the bulletin, if it is call G.E..  Click on the big blue "read this" link.  If it is not in the list, post back.

S/N RA256342.  Already contacted GE and scheduled for an appointment this Tuesday - November 2. Was told there is a $ 75 labor fee for diagnosis.

Will let you know on Tuesday how this will turn out.... stay tuned!

Thanks!

The tech did not show up last Tuesday so we had it rescheduled today....

He just left the house. They will replace both doors which according to him are already rusted free of charge, however labor is $150 that we have to pay.  When we asked why it is not free, his response was that this is how the 4th year program is applied.... even though my unit is over a month. We bought this last October 2001.

Many thanks for your help.

I forgot to add one more thing....

Last Monday when I arrived home from work I took water from the ice/water dispenser and noticed this is no longer leaking when I released the dispenser arm even without holding the child lock for 3 secs......
