anybody know what the purpose of the hall sensors are. I have an error code that means the lower ventilating fan is not operating but it is working normally. It would help to give the correct model # jjw9827dds Last edited on Sun Nov 21st, 2010 12:54 am by bonedano |

your range has a hall sensor error for the fans? hall sensors are used in some brushless dc motors to detect and regulate the speed of the motor they are used in most overseas built front load washers(LG and samsung use them) this is the first i have heard of one being used in something as simple as a cooling fan though

a hall sensor error can be difficult to diagnose, cause you cant really tell what speed that motor is going(so is the sensor detecting a true problem with the speed of the motor, or is the sensor itself defective) on larger dc motors the sensor is changable, not sure about a small cooling fan i'd like to see this wiring diagram from someone that has access to service matters

Should have a tech sheet somewhere in the range. I searched the service manual and didn't see a mention of a hall sensor.

found a nice bonus from my parts supplier they had the wiring diagram in the parts breakdown, and there are indeed hall sensors for the fans http://cid-161d5dae096a24ce.office.live.com/self.aspx/service%20manuals/jjw9827dds%20wiring%20diagram.gif?sa=97274751 thats the wiring for this model i'm still searching the parts list to see if its a seperate part from the fan, cause if it is you can swap the upper and lower sensor to see if the error remains on the same over or moves ovens, this tells you if its the sensor, or the fan

nowhere on my parts breakdown do i find a seperate sensor,it could be part of the fans, however, the parts breakdown i have leaves alot to be desired, it only shows one oven for this dual oven, it could be cause both are identical, other than the control panel, but i cant be certain but the fans are definatly controlled by a hall sensor

thats the identical parts breakdown i saw you cant tell if the hall sensor is part of the fan from the diagram, my listing shows 2 different part numbers for the upper/lower fans which also means you cant swap them

there we go, Reg comes thru again so as long as all wiring to the fan is in proper working order, the new part should remove the code, unless a bad board or connection on the board is the cause of the error we just dont know if our forum suppliers part includes the sensor or not, cause their description does not say, either way would be nice to know, cause they allow returns, i doubt sears does

would like to see what error our apprentice posts up the manual says the fans are 120v a/c, i didn't know a/c motors used hall sensors, but i dont know everything, so maybe some do but if the fan runs and it includes the hall sensor i am leaning towards a defective fan(cause the sensor is included)

well thats a fan error, and you say fan turns, the sensor is part of the fan this all leads back to the fan so i say change it
