Frig and Freezer section seem to be working fine, but recently, over the last week or two, I have noticed that the "suction pump" does not suction the doors shut either on the frig or freezer sides. The temps all seem OK and no unusual noises, except that when either door is shut, the motor or pump no longer activates to seal the compartments as before. Ideas? I downloaded a sparts schematic and don't seem to identify a particular "pump" to perform this operation. Any thoughts?? Thanks

there is no pump. Cold air is replaced with warm air when you open the door. as you close the door the warm air is cooled and it contracts. this contraction of the air creates the suction. some possible causes for your symptom are door seals damaged or warped, unit not cold enough, not enough food in the unit. if the unit is empty there wont be enough frozen mass to cool the air.

Checked the seals, all appear soft and in good condition, the unit is not abused. As for not enough food in the box, not a problem on either side. The temps on the readings are both as set, so there is no problem with cooling, or defrosting as far as I can tell. The compressor is working, I can hear and feel that, although very warm to touch, don't know what normal is on that. But when you would open or close the doors, there would be a definite fan or motor that would come on above the level ofthe compressor and the door would immediately "suck" shut. It was a definite phenomenon, that is not occurring now. And if you closed the door and then immediately went to reopen it, it would be 2 - 3 times harder to open to break the seal while that motor was running. This would only run for approximately 5 - 10 seconds and then quit and you would then just hear the normal low level compressor noise. I understand what your saying, but the normal magnetic attraction of the door was not the only thing keeping these doors closed, from my experience over the last 4 1/2 years. Thanks for any help.

Freezer 6 degrees, Refrigerator 34 degrees And has been like this for 4 1/2 years without a problem.

Also check your in door dispenser, ice chute door, is it closing all of the way??? check the ice maker fill tube, ( p/n WR49x10100 ) the part that goes from the supply line, ( at the rear of the unit ) thru the wall into the freezer section.......... may need to add some more Per-ma-gum.............

I'm not at all familiar with this GE model but some of the larger refrigs I believe have a one way relief valve to let air out but not back in, which would create the suction. Again the noise was not a motor, it was the pressure changing.

It appears you may have such a device on the flexible drain tube up somewhere around the evaporator.

Ref# 840 is the relief valve: WR02X12062 Flapper & valve asm, which attaches to the flexible drain tube, ref# 835, (Top right area of picture).
