Hi, Looking to buy a smallish (200-300L) top-mount fridge for a holiday house. We will probably only occupy the place once or twice a month, and so to save energy costs we thought we would just run the fridge when we are there, and turn it off (leaving doors ajar to allow evaporation) when we leave. Will this constant turning on and off be detrimental to the life of the fridge? Also would turning it on and off frequently perhaps use even more power than letting it run - particularly if we ran it at it's maximum temp when not in use? I know these days some fridges come with a vacation mode but we weren't looking at anything that fancy, just a plain fridge something like a class="productnamecolorLARGE colors_productname"WESTINGHOUSE WTM1800WC. Any comments or other suggestions? Thanks Anne

I like your plan. Also compresser wear will be much less. Leave the door ajar with some ground coffee, baking soda, or charcoal inside (nice but no nessesary) for oder control. As for energy use, well it takes only 12-24 hours stablize (get cold). I think you will save by unplugging when not there 2-3 weeks or more. Kenmore (Whirlpool) is fine too. Thats my $0.02, I'll let others chime in.
