Several times a day my frig makes a loud rattle noise, that sounds a lot like a very large ping pong ball bouncing. It goes on for about :30 secs, and has appeared and gotten worse over the last week. But there appears to be no lose of cooling performance, but I am concerned for my beer.

I know it is the compressor, because when I shake that little black barrel hard enough it makes the sound. I realize that I'm probably looking down the barrel of an expensive repair, but is there anything I can do? The fan next to it seems to be working fine. I thoroughly cleaned out the coils to no effect. Anything else to try?

This was not a cheap unit, and is only 6ish years old. I assume I'm outta warranty. Know of any recalls? Should I get a new fridge or replace the compressor? If I do, should I get the same compressor or can you suggest a more reliable alternate? I'm in Stoneham, MA, is that in your territory?

Sounds like one of the motor/pump suspension springs done broke on your unit......will run, just annoying ...... nothing left to do other then replace the compressor, easy to do IF you have the correct equipment............ use the factory replacement............

Thanks for the reply! A few follow up questions...

It sounds like the springs you speak of are inside the compressor, so I can't just replace that, correct?

I'm game for replacing the compressor, but what is the correct equipment I'll need? Are there instructions and diagrams on the website somewhere you can point me to?

( Need a federal license ) maybe some dry nitrogen.........15-5 silver solder....... brazing blankets ( torch shield ) plus more various tools............Plus you need nerves of steel ( just kidding ) to braze 3-4 inches from other flammable items I.E. foam, wires..........For a complete job, from start to finish, with the work done as to not get a call back, 3 hours max...........
