Hi, I have been searching a ton of the previous posts. I have your typical Frigidaire "refrigerator-side is frozen" situation. However I cannot find this "damper control Kit" that everyone talks about. I can find the kit for other models, but nothing that will cross reference with my model number (FRS26H7CSBO). Is there no kit for this model? I am assuming that the culprit is the thermostat switch, damper, or defrost circuit board, but how can I test these to make sure I am not spending a ton of money on the wrong part? Any help is appreciated. I am at the end of my rope!! -AJ

you should be able to hear the damper open/close and feel the air flow stop when the frsh food control is adjusted from min to max setting, test for this other things that can cause this unit to freeze beer are the fresh food light staying on when the door is closed(the bulb warms the controls) also ... some dispensor boards have an extra ice function, if this is repeatedly turned on the fridge side will freeze does your dispensor board display do anything eratic... i.e more than one light on, or extra ice light keep comming on by itself?

Brnt, as I adjust the knob, the damper does nothing. I can feel the cold air coming in if I put my hand up to the damper. What tells the damper to close? Is it either fully closed or fully open, or can it be somewhere in the middle? The display seems perfectly normal. Nothing unusual there. Mine does have an extra ice function, but I have never used it. Thanks, AJ PS The worst part about this is all my beer was frozen. Noooooooooooo!!!!!

Well, I ordered a new damper. I figured it cost less than a cold control, so I'll take a gamble and see if it fixes my problem. I'll post how it turns out in a few days. -AJ

the fresh food control opens/closes the damper, it is either open or closed, the freezer control runs the compressor i hope you see this note before you try to change the damper.... there is one screw in the control panel directly behind the damper, its a 1/4 inch head screw, this hole is deep and narrows before you reach the screw DO NOT USE A SOCKET ON AN EXTENSION, it will go half way in and wedge in place, and its near impossible to ever remove use a screwdriver with a long shaft that accepts the interchangable 1/4 inch bits, or a 1/4 inch nut driver frigidaire recieved so many fridges back under warranty with sockets stuck in them that they used to include a free screwdriver in the damper kit to prevent this problem before you open the box for the new damper remove the old one and make sure it is not just frozen open by ice(sorry forgot to mention that the first time) Last edited on Wed Oct 27th, 2010 01:07 am by BrntToast ____________________ The only stupid question is the one not asked hope i've been helpfull, if you wish to buy Brnt beer kick here http://brnttoast.googlepages.com/home feel free to prvt msg frigidaire questions my way (i dont log in every day) |

Thanks for the tip, Burnt. I'll dig out my interchangeable screwdriver. I already ran into this issue, however. I had a heck of a time getting that 1/4" head screw out. Terrible design. Anyway, the new damper is on the way, I hope that fixes it. Otherwise I guess I'll buy that fresh food control that you are talking about. Is that the part with the dial on it? Does that part go by any other names?? Thanks for the help!! AJ

i do friggy warranty and cannot remember changing that control... ever if the damper doesn't fix the problem, you are better to spend countless hours with us online to find the real problem we realise our supplier will return parts, but we still discourage the use of parts changing monkeys(we have a link for this, google it)

I installed my new damper unit. That didn't fix the issue. As I adjust the control from cold to coldest the damper makes no noise and stays open no matter what. Is there a way to test the fresh food control? Any ideas??

here is a manual for your generation of SxS sorry for the homework, but it'll give you good knowledge of how the whole thing works, it explains the damper/controls and how to test both also get a thermometer inside your freezer and check its temp, just cause stuff is frozen in there, it doesn't mean its cold enough water freezes at 32, so does food, but your freezer should be somewhere between 10 and 0 if operating properly http://cid-161d5dae096a24ce.office.live.com/self.aspx/service%20manuals/frigidaire%20service%20manuals/frigidaire%20fridge/next%20gen%20sxs.pdf
