I have a GE TFX26ZPDA BB fridge with the "old style Whirlpool icemaker". The thru-door dispenser has the slide switch to choose water, crushed, or cubes. Icemaker is making ice, it no longer dispenses. Water dispenser works fine. When I push the button on the dispenser, I hear a humming from the motor area but the forked metal piece (that turns the auger)protruding from the motor area does not turn. What's the deal?

Deal is the motor is frozen up with ice or is has gone bad, need to remove everything from the freezer and the back panel to access this motor to see what is up with the humming only..see if you can turn it by hand, it will have a lot of resistance when you try to do this. If it is frozen up with ice thaw it with your blow dryer.

Good call - after a bit of a thaw, the actuator began to turn. The question now is "why?" Is there anything to do to prevent this from happening again? I've seen a couple of threads about a seal overhaul kit. A while back, I did suspect a leak somewhere in the unit that got better. While I didn't see any obvious signs of a leak around the motor, could this have been / be the problem? If so, is there a good thread to help me address replacing seals? Thanks for the immediate help.

The reason is this is G.E., all sorts of problems...there is a boot kit to put on this motor to keep the water out to stop this from happening in the future, I will try to find this kit number for you...

Too many kits and fixes for different styles and models, call G.E. with your model and serial numbers and ask them what is the correct kit/boot number for your frig. 1 800 626 2000
