My GE Monogram side-by-side fridge (Model Number ZIS42CMC), has a door problem. The right side door is rubbing metal to metal at the bottom. Is this an adjustment issue or a hardware problem? Cannot find the tech manual for my model...any help would be appreciated snpperhd

Most likely a hardware issue. Get down and have a close look with a flash light and compare the left shide bottm door hinge to the right one and see what's missing or rubbing...let us know

Both sides look very similar...the only real difference I can notice is the right side's plastic bushing (which apears split and raises when the door is opened) is smaller or in a different position than the left side. I think the bushing allows the door to try to close when door is only 30 degrees open.

Thanks for posting the parts info...but $57? Am I the only one that thinks this seems HIGH? I've heard that GE parts are overpriced, but $57 for a piece of plastic seems crazy. Any suggestions on knockoff brands? Thanks again for the help. snpperhd

Finally getting around to changing out the bottom riser and noticed 'it ain't that easy'...how do I get the new riser into position? Seems like the door must come off at the bottom in order for me to slip the riser into place, but cannot seem to lift it high enough. Any guidance, written or via repair manual would be greatly appreciated. snpperhd

Check that...it is pretty easy to do...I located and/or actually studied the parts breakdown and determined my plan of attack. In case anyone else has this problem, I'll briefly describe my experience. To install the bottom riser I needed to remove the door, and to do that I first had to remove the main unit grille. Now I could access/remove the (1) Philips screw holding the top hinge cover, and the (2) 7/16 bolts mounting the top hinge to the chassis. Of course I needed another body to hold the door as I removed the hinge (with the door trays/contents removed, it was pretty light). With the door removed, we laid it on its side and was able to easily remove the (2) Philips screws holding the riser and bracket to the bottom of the door. My riser was broken, so it played a little hard to get as far as removing from the door, but the Styrofoam insulation in the door kept it from really sliding too far up in the door. Obviously by reversing the steps your door is installed...pretty simple after the fact. Thanks again to all who helped me on this little project. I look forward to future projects and perusing the appliance guru forums. snpperhd Last edited on Sat Oct 16th, 2010 01:14 am by snpperhd |
