Hello ApplianceGuru.com forum members, I'm a first time user of this site, but it looks like there is a lot of good information out here, so I thought I'd give this a go. I have a Whirlpool ED5HVEXVQ02 side by side with a loose ice door. I've removed the front panel, and exposed the inside. It appears that a plastic piece broke off the housing (item #1) on the parts list (here: http://j.mp/90jFDw) that the door pin #5 pivots in. With this piece broken off, I don't believe that the door can pivot correctly, or even close. The plastic part that broke is where this pin sits in, on the rear plastic housing. It seems this housing is difficult to get, and not easy to come by. Does anyone have any suggestions for this type of situation? Thanks for any help anyone can provide, -pd

There is a special kit you will need for your repair, itls not that bad of a job, just need to floow the directions and take your time. The kit comes with everything you will need. You can view and purchase your required part at Repairclinic.com. Enter part number 8201756 that's what you need.

The kit comes with everything you will need. Wow, thanks for the quick reply appl.tech.29501! I took a look at that repair kit, but I'm not sure that is exactly what I need. I think I may not have specified correctly what the issue is. The housing that is the farthest back most piece, the plastic in the door is cracked off. I will get some photos tonight and share the links here when I get home, to correctly illustrate the issue. I looked at the part you referenced from repairclinic.com and it seems to include every other piece within the ice side. I still have all of those pieces, and they appear to be undamaged. Let me reply with photos of the damaged housing, and we can go from there. From what I saw and read, this may be a difficult-to-service issue. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this issue. Thanks. -pd

I believe I may. My intention is not only to locate that part, but also to discuss the feasibility of installing it myself. I mean, I have the front apart, it just seems that there's a lot of wiring and other stuff going through there that I may not be able to navigate around to change that part. I'm also thinking that the part isn't available because it's not a 'user-servicable-part' or whatever. Let me confirm when I get home, and I'll take a picture and post it up here tonight.

that part is not normally available, (unless you can find someone that has one from a used Fridge) Can you somehow epoxy the original hole for that Pin, and re-drill a new hole ?

The kit I described and the Samurai linked is what you need. It was designed for your issue. You have to break off the remaining tab and the bracket in the kit has metal tabs for the pin to go through so the problem wont reoccur. The bracket is held into place with double sided tape. Trust me, it's what you need.
