I tried to put this into test mode and it would not go, it is a DLX series. My question is, on this unit should door be shut when i hold down the three buttons or open? This unit is going through all cycles but when the time gets to the rinse part it stays there and rinses forever and wont advance. Any help always appreciated.

You have a problem with the heater that heats the water in the final rinse. Of course, disconnect the power to the dishwasher. Here's what you need to check: Remove the control module that's behind those buttons on the control panel. Open up the plastic cover on the control module, and take out the actual printed circuit board. If you look carefully you will see a few burnt solder joints at the heater relay. If that's the case, you need to replace the control module. To answer your question, the door should be shut when you put the unit in test mode. Good Luck! Then you have a problem with the heater itself, or the NTC (Negative Temperature Coefficient) which is on the heater. The heater is not accessible without removing the dishwasher from under the counter.
