I couldn't find this question anyhwhere so I'll ask it here.

I've got a Kitchenaid 36" smoothtop electric built in cooktop. It is an older unit that Kithcenaid doesn't even list anymore. The model number is KECC56088L2, I did look at it with flashlight and even took a picture to make sure of the number since it wouldn't come up anywhere.

Here's my situation: It is the five burner one and one of the knobs felt like it disconnected from the switch and wouldn't turn on and has too much play up and down. Now the other burners don't work so I thought the infinity switches need replacing.

My real question is how do I even access the switches?. It looks to me like the entire cooktop needs to somehow be lifted up and I tired pushing from the bottom but it didn't budge. I didn't see any screws that were visible to release. From the top it is a smoothtop and there is small lip bracket (not sure I'm describing that rght) but the point is there is nothing to pull up on. I couldn't find a manual to see what the process is but I'm betting the entire unit needs to come out. Is there an easy way to do this? Thank you

Sometimes they are sealed to the counter top with silicon or some other sealer, but your correct the unit has to come out to service. If all the burners quit then you have other issues.....either your breaker tripped or the power issue most likely where the cooktop wires meet your house wiring.

A putty knife will aid in removing any sealer that may be hold the unit to the counter top.
