Gas range oven igniter coming on but not igniting. I tapped the safety valve vigorously while calling for heat and at times got a very minimal flame. Pretty sure it's the valve but didn't check for voltage at the valve. Should it have 120 v at valve terminals when calling for heat to oven? Igniter is glowing but does only the hot run through series through valve? thanks

The glow Ignitor is in series with the Gas Valve. It needs to draw about 3 Amps (after 30 seconds) in order for the Gas Valve to open. At the required 3 Amps, the Gas Valve only receives 3v AC, which is what is needed to open the Valve. Glow Ignitors get weak and won't draw the required Amps, and therefore not heat adequately. ok, thanks. that's what i wanted to hear. I knew there had to be a resistance to open but have never actually come across a bad igniter that didnt have a complete break. Hopefully it's the cheaper fix. thank you

The existing igniter was only pulling 2 amps. Replaced it and it works fine. Glad it was the cheaper fix.
